A structured light imaging (SLI) system includes a projection system, image sensor system and processing module. The projection system is operable to project a single SLI pattern into an imaging area. The image sensor system is operable to capture images of a 3D object moving through the imaging area. The image sensor system outputs a subset of camera pixels corresponding to a subwindow of a camera frame to generate subwindow images. The processing module is operable to create a 3D surface map of the 3D object based on the subwindow images.

The system includes a 3D feature detection module and 3D recognition module. The 3D feature detection module processes 3D surface map of a biometric object, wherein the 3D surface map includes a plurality of 3D coordinates. The 3D feature detection module determines whether one or more types of 3D features are present in the 3D surface map and generates 3D feature data including 3D coordinates and feature type for the detected features. The 3D recognition module compares the 3D feature data with biometric data sets for identified persons. The 3D recognition module determines a match between the 3D feature data and one of the biometric data sets when a confidence value exceeds a threshold.

The present invention greatly enhances the user experience when the user is attempting to 'teach' an electronic control device the code set used by a remote control unit. In one embodiment, the user is simply instructed to depress a button on the remote control unit. The electronic control device captures the overall waveform of the transmission corresponding to the code representing the depressed button and matches it against codes found in a code set database. If a unique match is found, the full code set data describing the matched code set is retrieved from the code set database and is used by the first electronic control device.

A signal having a segment is received into a first device, and a segment is sampled before a predetermined match range to determine a first on or off status of the segment. A determination is made whether the first on or off status of the segment matches a first predetermined desired status and, if not, the decoding of the signal is terminated. The segment is sampled during the predetermined match range with circuitry to determine a second on or off status, and a determination is made whether the second on or off status of the signal matches the second predetermined desired status and, if so, causing the first device to perform a predetermined function with respect to a second device and, if not, terminating the decoding of the signal.
