A method, electronic device, and device-readable medium are provided for implementing a quick reply action for communication events listed in a unified inbox. In a unified inbox, a subset of communication event listings include a user interface element that is actuatable to initiate a reply to the communication event, while other listings in the unified inbox do not include this user interface element. In response to actuation of this user interface element, reply message content can be received, and provided to an application executing on the electronic device to send the content in a reply message.

System, method and device-readable medium for message composition within a unified event view

In one embodiment, an apparatus accesses a memory to obtain information regarding sharing history (as pertains, for example, to a particular user and/or device) and uses that sharing history to display at least one recommended sharing action (from amongst a plurality of available candidate sharing actions) as regards to a particular content item (such as, for example, a particular digital photograph, a video, a presentation, and so forth). This sharing history can comprise previously-selected sharing actions as correlated to content item types including shared-content recipients, corresponding temporal data, shared-content size, corresponding location data, and so forth. By one approach the apparatus itself serves to automatically track user-based content-sharing selections over time, which information is stored as the aforementioned sharing history. By one approach the user is presented with an opportunity to assert a non-specific share command that triggers the aforementioned display of one or more recommended sharing actions.

Method and apparatus pertaining to history-based content-sharing recommendations

An electronic user deviceis disclosed in which a user interfacefor an email application is displayed. The user interfaceincludes an email threadand a selectable calendar look-up banner. Upon selection of the calendar look-up bannerthe user deviceis configured to retrieve electronic calendars respectively associated with the email users identified in the email thread. A score is then calculated for a plurality of time slots in the retrieved electronic calendars, and the time slots are displayed according to their score. A user can then make a selection of one of the time slots. A calendar event is then populated with information derived from the email threadand is sent to each of the email addresses in the thread, to be added to their electronic calendars.

A method of managing data transfer from a server to a portable electronic device via a network includes, by the portable electronic device, initiating data transfer to the portable electronic device, identifying a network connection type by the portable electronic device to the network; setting, by the portable electronic device, a filter size for data record transmission to the portable electronic device, the filter size set based on the network connection type, and requesting, by the portable electronic device, a quantity of data records from the server. The quantity of data records is a number of data records that is dependent on the filter size set based on the network connection type.

The method includes: sending a request to the server to identify an initial subset of most recently received messages from among a plurality of messages for synchronization; retrieving the initial subset of messages from the server; and retrieving, from the server, messages belonging to a conversation that includes at least one of the messages in the initial subset, prior to retrieving more recently received messages that do not belong to any conversation that includes at least one of the messages in the initial subset.

A method, non-transitory computer readable medium and a communication device display an email message by receiving at least one incoming email message, determining the incoming email message originates from a different time zone than the time zone in which the communication device is currently located, and displaying the incoming email message in a prioritized position within a message listing. The incoming email may be displayed at a top of the message list, regardless of reception order. When a plurality of incoming email messages that originate from different time zones are received, each incoming email message is displayed in the message listing according to an absolute or relative time distance from the communication device. When the incoming email message has been read, the read email message is moved to a normal position within the message list.

Method and device for prioritizing messages based on originating time zone

A method of controlling a portable electronic device includes, in response to receipt of selection of an option to enter a do not disturb mode at the portable electronic device, suppressing notifications for the communications received at the portable electronic device while in the do not disturb mode. The method also includes, in response to exiting the do not disturb mode, discontinuing suppressing notifications for new communications received at the portable electronic device, providing an option to view the communications received at the portable electronic device while in the do not disturb mode and, in response to receipt of selection of the option to view the communications received while in the do not disturb mode, displaying a consolidated list of the communications received at the portable electronic device while in the do not disturb mode. The consolidated list includes a plurality of electronic communication types.

Portable electronic device and method of controlling notifications

A portable electronic device includes a touch-sensitive display including a display and display touch-sensors to detect touches, and a keyboard including mechanical keys associated with characters, the mechanical keys including depressible keycaps to output the characters and keyboard touch sensors to detect touches on the mechanical keys. A processor is coupled to the keyboard and to the touch-sensitive display to detect a touch at a location associated with a signature entry field displayed on the touch-sensitive display, in response to detecting the touch, enter a keyboard signature process, detect a moving touch on the mechanical keys of the keyboard, along a path of contact of the touch on the mechanical keys, and, in response to detecting completion of the moving touch, enter a signature defined by the path of contact of the touch on the mechanical keys into the signature entry field.

Portable electronic device including keyboard and method of controlling the same

A system and method are provided for enabling notes to be taken on an electronic device. The method may comprise displaying a user interface portion with a first application user interface after detecting a first input. Content is enabled to be associated with the user interface portion and the user interface portion is displayed with a second application user interface after detecting a second input. The user interface portion displayed after the second input includes the content that was associated with the user interface portion while the user interface portion was displayed with the first application user interface.
