Disclosed is a high-power electric motor and its fabrication technology. The motor and its distributed power electronics are all being fully integrated in a conventional turbofan engine. The rotor drives directly (with no gears) the LP shaft of the jet engine while requiring minimal modification to a basic jet engine and without distortion to the nacelle geometry. In principle such a configuration should be suitable for a power level of 10 to 50 MW, which makes it fully capable of providing a standard flight envelope by only using electric energy.

Fully integrated hybrid electric jet engine

A method of compressing gas includes maintaining a volume of gas at a first pressure within a first chamber. Pressurized liquid is forced into the first chamber through a nozzle having a curved profile. Based on the Coanda effect, the liquid compresses the volume of gas to a second pressure greater than the first pressure. The liquid is separated from the gas in a second chamber while maintaining the gas at the second pressure to provide compressed, dry gas.

Method and system for compressing gas using a liquid

A method and at least two devices demonstrate improvements to energy extraction from a compressible working fluid in a liquid ring heat engine, which has a rotor mounted in a case. A space in the case is occupied by a liquid that establishes a liquid ring piston for the rotor. The rotor defines at least a first and a second operating zone. In the first zone, the working fluid is expanded against the liquid and, in the second zone, the working fluid is re-compressed. Between the two zones, the working fluid is cooled. In one device, the cooling step occurs on the rotor in a third zone. In another device, the cooling occurs outside of the case.

Liquid ring heat engine

A powertrain is adapted to drive ground-engaging elements disposed along longitudinally-opposing sides of a vehicle. The powertrain includes at least one engine, a first electric machine, a second electric machine, a third electric machine, a first differential mechanism and a second differential mechanism. The engine and first electric machine are operatively connected to the first and second differential mechanisms. The second electric machine is operatively connected to the first differential mechanism and the third electric machine is operatively connected to the second differential mechanism. The first and second differential mechanisms are each operatively connected to drivable engage one or more ground-engaging elements disposed on a different one of the longitudinally-opposing sides of the associated vehicle. A vehicle including such a powertrain as well as methods of using the same are also included.

Powertrain, vehicle and methods

A powertrain is adapted to drive ground-engaging elements disposed along longitudinally-opposing sides of a vehicle. The powertrain includes at least one engine, a first electric machine, a second electric machine, a third electric machine, a first differential mechanism and a second differential mechanism. The engine and first electric machine are operatively connected to the first and second differential mechanisms. The second electric machine is operatively connected to the first differential mechanism and the third electric machine is operatively connected to the second differential mechanism. The first and second differential mechanisms are each operatively connected to drivably engage one or more ground-engaging elements disposed on a different one of the longitudinally-opposing sides of the associated vehicle. A vehicle including such a powertrain as well as methods of using the same are also included.

Power train, vehicle and methods

A marine propulsion system comprising, in one embodiment: a fuel-filled tank; an air compressor that generates compressed air; an engine that receives fuel from the tank, wherein the air compressor is powered by the engine; and at least one hot gas generator that receives compressed air from the air compressor, the hot gas generator comprising: (a) a combustion chamber having an inlet and an outlet, the compressed air injected into the combustion chamber at the inlet, the combustion chamber adapted to produce hot gas; (b) an injection nozzle that receives fuel from the tank, the injection nozzle positioned proximate to the inlet of the combustion chamber, the injection nozzle adapted to spray the fuel into the combustion chamber; and (c) an exhaust Coanda nozzle positioned at the outlet of the combustion chamber through which the hot gas produced in the combustion chamber is discharged from the hot gas generator.

Marine propulsion system

A transaxle () operatively connects a first associated rotational connection and a second associated rotational connection with an associated vehicle axle. An electrically-variable transmission includes an engine (), a first electric machine () operatively connected to the engine, second and third electric machines (and), a first transaxle () operatively connecting the engine and second electric machine to an associated vehicle axle (A), and a second transaxle () operatively connecting the first and third electric machines to another associated vehicle axle (B). A method () is also included.

An electric motor axle assembly comprising an electric motor; a gear shaft; and an output shaft. The electric motor having a pinion shaft extending therefrom. The electric motor is adapted to rotate the pinion shaft about a first axis. The pinion shaft comprising a pinion gear. The gear shaft defining a second axis at least substantially parallel to the first axis. The gear shaft having disposed thereon a first gear and a second gear such that rotation of the gear shaft about the second axis induces rotation in the first gear and in the second gear. The first gear is adapted to engage the pinion gear. The output shaft defining a third axis. The third axis is at least substantially parallel to the first axis and the second axis. The output shaft comprising a third gear. The third gear is adapted to engage the second gear. The output shaft comprising at least a portion of a constant velocity joint.
