A wall penetrating firefighting device, usable separately or as a part of an attack fire hose nozzle assembly, for penetrating the walls of buildings or other types of barriers to extinguish fires hidden by or within the walls or barriers. The device includes an elongated tubular member that is secured to a casing having a bore therethrough and adapted to be connected to a source of fire extinguishing agent under pressure. A discharge port in the distal end of the penetration member discharges a stream of fire extinguishing agent in a direction generally transverse to the axis of the penetration member when a valve in the casing is shifted to its open position. The distal end of the penetration member is conically tapered to facilitate manually forced penetration thereof through a wall or barrier. A flow converting collar having a plurality of orifices therein may be mounted on the penetration member of the device for movement between an inoperative position spaced from the discharge port and an operative position surrounding the discharge port. When in its operative position, the collar converts the stream of fire extinguishing agent into a large ball-like pattern for protecting the user from radiant heat.

Wall penetrating fire extinguishing device

A fire hose nozzle assembly employing separable receiver and nozzle sections which are releasably retained in assembled relation by a removable fastener to permit rapid disassembly and reassembly at the scene of a fire in order to remove accumulated debris and other foreign material from the interior of the nozzle assembly so that normal operation can be rapidly and easily restored. The shiftable valve member and valve seat of a flow control and shut-off valve assembly are respectively mounted in the receiver and nozzle sections of the nozzle assembly. Movement of the valve member toward and away from its seat to vary the characteristics of the flow from the nozzle is achieved by a bail-type control handle that is pivotally mounted on the housing of the receiver section. The removable fastener which retains the nozzle section in the receiver section also permits adjustment of the position of the control handle so that engagement of the valve member with its seat is assured when the control handle is shifted fully in a direction to close the valve assembly. An adjustable brake member is mounted in an enlarged head of one of the trunnions which support the control handle and permits adjustment of the force required to move the control handle and to hold the handle in an adjusted position.

Fire hose nozzle

A fire hose nozzle having a central tubular body member and tubular forward and rear body members carried at the respsective ends of said central body member. A pressure control cylinder is coaxially mounted in the tubular body member and a hydraulically balanced, tubular, slider member is mounted in the central body member for axial movement between an upstream position wherein the downstream end of the slider member is spaced from a cone on the upstream end of the pressure control cylinder, and a downstream position wherein the downstream end of the slider member engages the cone of the pressure control cylinder and shuts off flow through the nozzle. Manually movable means on the exterior of the central tubular body member is connected to the slider member and permits a user of the nozzle to vary the position of the downstream end of the slider member in the tubular body member with respect to the cone of the pressure control cylinder to thus modulate the rate of the flow of fluid through the nozzle.
