A projection television display screen has a plurality of mountings affixed to a cabinet. The plurality of mountings provide rigid screen suspension in a vertical plane while permitting differential lateral movement of the screen relative to the mountings.

The television cabinet comprises of a cabinet front, a back cover and a chassis frame. When the back cover is secured to the cabinet front with the chassis frame interposed therebetween, the members define an enclosure for housing the picture tube and the electronics. The exterior surfaces of the cabinet front, back cover and the chassis frame form the exterior walls of the cabinet upon assembly of the members, with the chassis frame spaced inwardly from the leg portions of the cabinet front and the back cover supporting the cabinet.

To load a record into the player, a caddy is inserted into the player and then withdrawn, thereby leaving the enclosed record inside the player resting on a pair of front and back receiver pads. As the pickup carriage moves toward the turntable for playback, the record is lowered to the turntable for rotation therewith without hindrance from the receiver pads. As the carriage is driven back to a standby position after playback, the record is transferred back to the receiver pads for retrieval.

In a video disc player, an empty jacket is inserted into the player to retrieve a retained record. A pair of retractable retaining pins are arranged in the player to hold the record in place as the jacket is inserted into the player. The retaining pins are retracted just before the jacket could contact the pins.

A record caddy, suitable for use with a video disc player, includes a sleeve and a record retaining spine removably located therein. Disposed on the spine are latch members for releasably locking the spine to the sleeve. Latch defeat fingers, disposed in the player, are wedged between the respective spine latch fingers and interior portions of the sleeve during a caddy arrival at a fully inserted position in the player, so that the spine latch fingers are deflected in a manner freeing the spine from the sleeve. The latch defeat fingers carry extensions which are subject to reception in pockets disposed on the spine latch fingers to lock the spine to the player when the caddy is fully inserted into the player, whereby the spine, freed from the sleeve and secured to the player, is removed from the sleeve and retained in the player resting on a platform along with an associated record during subsequent sleeve withdrawal.

Record extracting mechanism for caddy type video disc player

A record caddy, suitable for use with a video disc player, comprises a jacket and a record retaining spine removably located therein. Disposed on the spine are lateral latch fingers for releasably locking the spine to the jacket. The spine has a pair of slots into which a locating member disposed in the player is received to assure accurate location of the spine in the player. A pair of cutouts are disposed in the spine in which gripper members of the record extracting mechanism are received to lock the spine to the player so that the record/spine assembly is retained in the player during subsequent jacket withdrawal.

Video disc caddy

A video record player includes a common drive belt for selectively translating a pickup stylus carriage. The player is equipped with a first drive mechanism, including a turntable-driven pulley, for utilizing the common drive belt for translating the carriage during playback toward the center of a turntable at a speed correlated to the speed of rotation of the turntable while stylus/record engagement is effected. The first drive mechanism includes a slip clutch interposed between the common drive belt and the turntable-driven pulley. In such players, a record caddy is used to push the carriage back to a starting position away from the turntable center, when it is at a position other than at the starting position during a caddy insertion into the player. A caddy-actuated mechanism is provided for rendering the slip clutch disabled during a caddy insertion, whereby restoration of the carriage to the starting position can be effected with freedom from interference by the first drive mechanism during such a caddy insertion.

A player, such as a video disc player, comprises a decorative cover member having a top wall, a separable trough member having perimetrical side walls and a separable base member having a bottom wall. The trough member provides mountings for a turntable, a turntable drive mechanism, a signal pickup, a pickup carriage, a carriage translating mechanism and operating controls. The base member provides mountings for signal processing circuits disposed on a printed circuit board and for external connection to the player. The decorative cover member, the trough member and the base member are subject to assembly in which the top wall of the cover member, the perimetrical side walls of the trough member and the bottom wall of the base member, respectively, form the top wall, the side walls and the bottom wall of the player assembly. A flexible cable connects the trough member with the base member. The decorative cover member has openings for respectively providing access to the turntable, to the signal pickup and to the operating controls, when the assembly of the members is formed.

In an RF coaxial connector assembly, apparatus is provided for mounting a washer-like capacitor. The capacitor is used for providing DC and low frequency isolation between the outer conductor of the connector and the device to which the connector is attached. The mounting apparatus comprises an insulating sleeve for containing the washer-like capacitor. The apparatus further comprises a mechanism for locking the capacitor in place within the sleeve.

A stylus arm, pivotally mounted at one end within a stylus housing, supports a stylus at its free end. A stylus arm rest including a permanent magnet is mounted in the stylus housing for movement between an elevated position and a depressed position. The housing is subject to translatory motion between a rest position, clear of a disc record supporting turntable, and playback positions over the turntable. A brush is mounted in proximity to the turntable and beneath the path of travel of the housing, with the bristles of the brush extending, from a holder which is mounted on a height adjustable platform, in directions substantially perpendicular to the direction of housing travel. As the housing reaches an intermediate position in passage toward the rest position, the stylus arm rest is depressed when the permanent magnet affixed thereto is attracted by a second permanent magnet mounted on the platform. The depression of the stylus arm rest causes the stylus arm to assume a lowered position where the stylus arm is supported by a guide mounted on the platform. During completion of the passage from the intermediate position to the rest position, the stylus arm slides over the guide allowing the stylus to pass through the brush bristles which clean debris therefrom; at the rest position, the stylus will be supported by the guide at an elevation substantially corresponding to the stylus elevation obtained during disc record engagement in the course of playback.

A system for inserting and removing a video disc into and from a player without the need for removing the video disc from its protective cover during said insertion and removal is disclosed. The system includes a clamping device built into the player for protruding into a protective cover during its insertion into the player. The clamping device precludes a removal of the enclosed video disc from the player during the subsequent cover withdrawal. The video disc is transferred to the player turntable when the lid of the player is closed. After playback, the lid is opened and an empty cover is inserted into the player. During the insertion of the empty cover, the video disc is automatically returned to the cover. The withdrawal of the cover after its full insertion into the player, removes the enclosed video disc.
