Resistance genes that are mutants of the wild-type Aspergillus nidulans dihydroorotate dehydrogenase gene have been isolated and found to impart resistance to certain DHOD inhibitors. The resistance genes are useful as selectable markers in fungi. The wild-type gene is also provided.
