There is provided a fluid-advancing fiber capable of being sewn, woven or knitted, using conventional methods, into a conductive mesh for use with various wearable fabrics for making direct contact with the skin. The fluid-advancing fiber has an inner portion and an outer portion, one or more conductive elements adjacent the outer portion, wherein the one or more conductive elements are adapted to constrict when heated by electric current and relax when cooled. The fluid-advancing fiber facilitates comfortable fluid communication between different wearable fabrics and the skin.

Fluid-advancing fiber

A mechanism for electrically connecting various electronic devices to a garment is provided. The mechanism has a sliding track adapted to support a variety of different electronic devices. The sliding track has one or more channels enabling elective electrical communication between at least one electronic device and a power source. The electronic device is adapted to be selectively supported by the sliding track such that the electronic device can slide along the sliding track. The mechanism has one or more channels having at least one conductive element disposed therein. The first conductive element is shaped to conform to one or more channels to provide an ideal electrical contact surface. The one or more channels are adapted to selectively enclose or seal the conductive element.

Mechanism for electrically connecting an electronic device to a garment

There is provided a conductive fiber capable of being sewn, woven or knitted, using conventional methods, into a conductive mesh for use with various wearable electronic devices and/or sensors that make direct contact with the skin. The conductive fiber, when combined with a non-slip fiber, facilitates comfortable electrical communication between different electronic devices and the skin.

Conductive fiber

A method and apparatus for selective shielding of fabric antennas incorporates the fabric antenna into the body of wearable garments and provides protection for wearers of the garment while allowing wearers to displace a portion of the garment body selectively, so as to render the antenna active or inactive. To protect wearers of the garment from the RF field that may be generated when an antenna is in use, a metallic fabric shielding layer is positioned in the body of the garment between the antenna and the body of a wearer. Another layer of metallic shielding fabric mounted to a layer of protective fabric formed as a displaceable layer of the garment body. The disclosed embodiments of the invention show displaceable layers in the form of foldable cuffs on sleeves, epaulets, decorative pocket-like flaps, and faux seams. Any of these displaceable layers may be retained in either &ldquo;active&rdquo; or &ldquo;inactive&rdquo; position, or both, by known retention devices, including snap fasteners, zippers, buttons, and hook-and-loop fasteners. In one embodiment, inherent tension in the structure of the garment is relied upon to maintain the shielding layer in the &ldquo;active&rdquo; position with the fabric antenna surface exposed, while the tension of the garment structure is overcome by a partially separable zipper device, to retain the shielding layer in its &ldquo;inactive antenna&rdquo; position.

Method and apparatus for selective shielding of fabric antennas

An audio speaker for incorporation into garments, upholstery, etc., has a diaphragm ( ) and connecting wires ( ) or switch ( ), and a concave cover ( or ) made of a heat-molded textile having a ceramic textile covering. The speaker is attached by stitching ( ) to an aperture ( ) in a piece of conventional textile ( ), for easy incorporation into a garment. The speaker may be sewn into the hood of a sports garment, or may be attached by the switch to a conducting area within a concave area of a garment such as a dress.

A method and system for providing a RFID transponder having a fabric antenna. The system including a radio frequency (RF) transponder, the transponder having a housing, an RF circuit enclosed in said housing, and a fabric antenna coupled to the RF circuit. The method of fabricating a radio frequency (RF) transponder including the steps of enclosing an RF circuit in a housing, forming a fabric antenna and coupling the fabric antenna to the RF circuit.

Wearable silicon chip

There is provided a skin engageable, electrode assembly for making selectable contact with the skin. The electrode facilitates the selective collection of electrical data and/or provides selective electrical stimulation. The electrode includes a conductive element, preferably of fabric construction, a semi-fluid conductive layer surrounding the conductive element, a cover preferably made of a perforated fabric or other porous material cell, and one or more temperature sensitive wires embedded in the cover that constrict when heated to cause the semi-liquid conductive layer to permeate the cover via the pores to engage the skin for electrical communication. When the wires cool, they loosen causing the semi-fluid conductive layer to be reabsorbed within the cover to prevent electrical communication with the skin.

Squeezable electrode assembly

There is provided a switch having a flexible upper member, that is substantially electrically non-conductive, having an inner surface with an upper contact area that is electrically conductive and connected to a circuit, and a lower member that is substantially electrically non-conductive, having an inner surface with a lower contact area that is electrically conductive and connected to the circuit, wherein the upper member and the lower member are sealingly connected to form a chamber therebetween, the upper contact area and the lower contact area are separated by at least a portion of the chamber and a force applied to the upper member causes the upper contact area and the lower contact area to make contact and close the switch of the circuit.
