A packet-based video network including: two or more video data sources, each configured to launch video data packets onto the network as multicast data packets each associated with a multicast group identifier corresponding to that video data source; and a video data destination configured to receive and process video data from a video data source by joining a multicast group corresponding to that video data source, and execute a switching operation to switch from receiving video data from a first video data source to receiving video data from a second video data source by leaving a multicast group of the first video data source and joining a multicast group of the second video data source. The video data destination is configured to process video data corresponding to a video frame which, at end of a frame period, represents a most recently received video frame from the first video data source.

An image processing method comprising: receiving a first image signal representing a portion of a captured image with a first dynamic range; generating a second image signal using the first image signal: applying one of: a first gain to the brightness value of each pixel in the portion of the captured image represented by the first image signal having a brightness value less than a first threshold brightness value, the first gain serving to increase the brightness value of each pixel to which it is applied, and a second gain to the brightness value of each pixel in the portion of the captured image represented by the first image signal having a brightness value greater than a second threshold brightness value, the second gain serving to decrease the brightness value of each pixel to which it is applied; and after the application of the one of the first and second gains, performing a conversion process such that the brightness value of each pixel in the portion of the captured image represented by the first image signal becomes represented in the second format, thus forming the second image signal.

Color conversion apparatus comprises mapping circuitry configured to map pixels of an input image having color components in an input color space to pixels of an mapped image having color components in an output color space, the input color space and the output color space being different color spaces such that at least a subset of colors representable in the input color space are not representable in the output color space; processing circuitry configured to process the mapped image by detecting instances, in the color components of pixels of the mapped image, of representations of negative amounts of a color component and in response to such a detection in respect of a pixel under test, to increase all of the color components of the pixel under test by an amount of at least the magnitude of the greatest magnitude negative amount of the color components of that pixel under test; and output circuitry configured to generate pixels of an output image, having color components in the output color space, from pixels of the processed mapped image, the output circuitry being configured to inhibit color components of pixels of the output image from exceeding a maximum representable color amount.

A client device is disclosed. The client device comprises: a communication unit configured to receive a plurality of parameters, the parameters defining segments of an image stored on a server, wherein the segments do not overlap; a processing unit configured to allow selection of a segment of the image in accordance with a defined view on the client device and wherein upon selection the segment and an adjacent segment are downloadable from the server; a plurality of the decoders operable to decode the segment and the adjacent segment and a display configured to display on the client device the cut out of the image taken from the segment.

Disclosed is a method for generating an image, comprising: obtaining a first image comprised of a first area being a plurality of images having different field of views of a real-life scene and captured from a location above the real-life scene stitched together to form a panoramic view of the real-life scene, and a second area which does not include the plurality of images; generating a second image which is a segment of the first image; determining whether the second image includes only the first area; and when the second image includes both the first area and at least part of the second area, the method further comprises: applying a border to the second image that extends along an upper boundary and along a lower boundary of the second image, the border being applied above the upper boundary and below the lower boundary. Method, apparatus, and computer-readable medium for superimposing a graphic on a first image generated from cut-out of a second image

A method of generating a cut-out from an image of a scene which has been captured by a camera is described. The method comprises: defining the position of a virtual camera, the image plane of the virtual camera being the cut out, with respect to the position of the camera capturing the scene; defining a set of pixel positions for the cut out of the captured image; generating a virtual camera rotation matrix to be applied to the defined set of pixel positions, the virtual camera rotation matrix expressing a combination of at least one of the yaw, pitch and roll of the virtual camera; applying the virtual camera rotation matrix to the defined set of pixel positions to determine a corresponding transformed pixel position for each of the defined pixel positions, the transformed pixel positions defining a shape and position of a portion of the captured image of the scene; mapping each of the transformed pixel positions in the set of transformed pixel positions to an associated pixel in the portion of the image of the scene; and establishing a value for each one of pixels of the image cut out in the defined pixel positions corresponding to the transformed pixel positions using the value of the corresponding associated pixel in the portion of the image of the scene which has been determined.

A method of controlling the movement of a virtual camera whose image plane provides a cut-out from a captured image of a scene is disclosed. The method comprises: defining a set of first pixel positions forming the boundary of the cut-out of the captured image; defining a set of second pixel positions for the boundary of the captured image; calculating a virtual camera rotation matrix to be applied to the first pixel positions, the virtual camera rotation matrix representative of the difference in at least one of the yaw and pitch of the image plane of the virtual camera and the image plane of the captured image of the scene, wherein the virtual camera rotation matrix is limited such that when one of the set of first pixel positions is transformed using the virtual camera rotation matrix, the transformed first pixel position is located within the boundary of the captured image.
