A system comprising a plurality of self-powered devices and at least one remote device. The plurality of self-powered devices may be configured to perform instructions. The plurality of self-powered devices may be configured to select one of a plurality of modes of operation. The remote device may be configured to store scheduling data. The remote device may be configured to communicate with the self-powered devices. The self-powered devices may select one of the plurality of modes of operation based on the scheduling data.

Predictive power management in a wireless sensor network using scheduling data

The self-powered device is configured to be powered by energy collected from a surrounding environment. The self-powered device includes an energy collector, and a memory having instructions for selecting one of a plurality of modes of operation. The energy collector is configured to collect energy to power the self-powered device from a surrounding environment in which the self-powered device is located. The plurality of modes of operation include: (i) a low-power mode of operation in which the self-powered device consumes less than a pre-determined or adaptively-determined amount of power and the self-powered device uses less than its full capabilities, and (ii) and a high-power mode of operation in which self-powered device consumes more than the pre-determined or adaptively-determined amount of power and the self-powered device uses its full capabilities. The instructions for selecting one of a plurality of modes of are configured to (a) select the low-power mode of operation when available energy becomes insufficient to fully power the self-powered device, and (b) select the high-power mode of operation when sufficient energy again becomes available to fully power the self-powered device.

Self-powered devices and methods

A system comprising a plurality of self-powered devices and at least one remote device. The plurality of self-powered devices may be configured to (i) perform one or more tasks and (ii) select one of a plurality of modes of operation. The remote device may be configured to (a) determine scheduling data for one or more activities based on a resource capacity of the self-powered devices and (b) communicate with the self-powered devices. The activities may comprise one or more of the tasks. The self-powered devices may determine a computational cost of performing the tasks.

Predictive power management in a wireless sensor network using activity costs

A device comprising a battery, a memory, a data acquisition circuit and a processor. The sensors may sample a current state of a dynamic process. The data acquisition circuit may have a first clock rate based on a sampling rate of the dynamic process. The data acquisition circuit may read sensor information from the sensors. The processor may have a second clock rate. The processor may process the sensor information and generate a monitoring signal based on at least one of the sensor information, a model of the dynamic process and a desired state of the dynamic process. The processor may schedule procedures for the device and determine computation times for the procedures based on context information. The second clock rate is faster than the first clock rate. The procedures are scheduled based on the sampling rate, the computation times for the procedures and opportunities to enter a standby mode to conserve power.

Power management for a self-powered device scheduling a dynamic process

A device comprising a processor, an energy source, one or more sensors, a wireless transceiver and a memory. The memory may comprise instructions for selecting one of a plurality of modes of operation. The modes of operation may comprise (i) a low-power mode in which the device consumes less than a pre-determined or an adaptively-determined amount of power and the device has less than full functionality and (ii) a high-power mode in which the device consumes more than the pre-determined or the adaptively-determined amount of power and the device has more functionality than in the low-power mode. The instructions for selecting one of the modes of operation may comprise (i) instructions for conserving power by transitioning from the high-power mode to the low-power mode and (ii) instructions for activating the wireless transceiver to transmit a message with information from the sensors to a remote device.

Smart security device with monitoring mode and communication mode

A system comprising a plurality of self-powered devices and a plurality of proximity self-powered devices. The plurality of self-powered devices may be configured to (i) perform instructions, (ii) store scheduling data and (iii) select one of a plurality of modes of operation. The proximity self-powered devices may be configured to (i) detect a presence and (ii) select one of a plurality of modes of operation. The plurality of self-powered devices may select one of the plurality of modes of operation based on (i) the stored scheduling data and (ii) the presence detected by at least one of the plurality of proximity self-powered devices.

The plurality of modes of operation include: (i) a low-power mode of operation in which the self-powered device consumes less than a pre-determined or adaptively-determined amount of power and the self-powered device uses less than its full capabilities, and (ii) and a high-power mode of operation in which self-powered device consumes more than the pre-determined or adaptively-determined amount of power and the self-powered device uses its full capabilities.

A system includes a computing device that selectively communicates with a self-powered device. The self-powered device has several modes of operation, including a first low-power mode of operation and a second high-power mode of operation. The self-powered device is to communicate with the computing device when the self-powered device is in the second mode of operation. The self-powered device may conserve power by alternating between the first mode of operation and the second mode of operation such that the self-powered device is in the second mode of operation during pre-determined or adaptively-determined time intervals. A duty-cycle of the second mode of operation relative to the first mode of operation may be in accordance with a power budget for the self-powered device.
