A shipping management system comprises a memory configured with a set of carrier-specific mapping rules for a plurality of carriers. The system includes a non-transitory computer readable medium comprising a set of instructions executable by a processor to: apply carrier-specific mapping rules to carrier-specific records received from the respective carrier to map status codes or descriptions in the carrier-specific records from the respective carrier to generate normalized shipping information for shipments, the normalized shipping information comprising normalized status codes; store the normalized shipping information in association with the user account; receive a request for shipments associated with the user account; and generate an unified view user interface to present a unified view of shipments associated with the user account, the unified view comprising normalized statuses or descriptions for shipments across the plurality of carriers and controls to allow a user to request additional data on individual shipments.

A shipping management system comprising a memory configured with shipping records representing shipments from a plurality of carriers and scheduling rules that specify a plurality of update frequencies. The shipping management system comprises a processor coupled to the memory. The shipping management system comprises a non-transitory computer readable medium comprising a set of computer executable instructions, the computer executable instructions executable by the processor to dynamically schedule, according to the scheduling rules, updates to update the shipping records; based on the dynamic scheduling, issue update application programming interface (API) calls according to APIs of carrier systems of respective carriers to request shipment data for the shipments; and update the shipping records based on the shipment data returned in response to the API calls.

A method and system are disclosed for efficiently storing and viewing data in a database. Data is stored in a nested data model which includes a plurality of nodes. A plurality of edges connect the plurality of nodes. Each edge has a unique edge name. A plurality of instances of data objects are associated with the nested data model. Each instance is associated with one of the edges such that the instance is also associated with that edge's name. An instance ordinal is associated with each instance which represents the number of times the edge associated with each instance is encountered during a traversal of the nested data model. The data stored utilizing the nested data model is accessed utilizing the instance ordinal and edge name associated with each of the plurality of instances, such that the data is accessed as being flat without flattening the nested data model.
