A nozzle block for a sootblower of the type for cleaning internal heat transfer surfaces of large scale coal fired combustion systems. For cleaning the internal surfaces, a cleaning medium is often used in the form of steam. Due to the cyclical operations and the process of condensation, condensate slugs of water can form in the sootblower fluid flow components. If these slugs are ejected against clean surfaces, undesirable erosion can occur. Several embodiments of nozzle blocks are described each having one or more ejection ports at their distal ends configured to maximize the ejection of condensates while minimizing their cross-sectional area which would diminish nozzle fluidic efficiency. Additional features enhance the ability of the nozzle block to separate and disperse condensate from the slots.

Condensate removal sootblower nozzle

A sootblower is provided having a multidirectional cleaning range for directing a cleaning medium against heated surfaces in a heat exchanger. The sootblower includes a rotatable lance tube that is selectively advanced and withdrawn along a longitudinal axis from an interior volume of the heat exchanger. The lance tube includes an articulating wrist coupled to a nozzle for projecting the cleaning medium in multi-directions onto the heated surfaces when the lance tube is advanced into the heat exchanger. The nozzle is pivotable about the longitudinal axis and about a second axis transverse to the longitudinal axis.

An assembly and a method for removing a removable device from a wall box are provided. The removable device forms a substantially fluid-tight wall box seal with a wall box opening when the removable device is in a first position. The assembly for removing the removable device includes a sealing assembly located adjacent to the wall box opening and forming a substantially fluid-tight seal with a sealing portion of the removable device when the removable device is in a second position with respect to the wall box.

A wall box coupled with a wall port of a combustion device is provided. The combustion device includes a wall and an interior volume defined by the wall. The wall box includes a cooling chamber surface defining a cooling chamber located adjacent to the wall port. A cooling fluid enters the cooling chamber via an inlet and exits the cooling chamber via an outlet, and the inlet is located exterior from the combustion device, the outlet is located the exterior from the combustion device.

A drive assembly for a sootblower which provides a non-constant rate of rotational motors of the lance tube through the use of non-circular gears in the drive assembly. The drive assembly is used to provide a uniform or near uniform rate of progression of a jet of cleaning medium ejected from the lance tube along a surface to be cleaned.

An articulating water monitor-cleaning device for cleaning internal surfaces of large-scale combustion devices. The device is mounted to the exterior of a wall of a combustion device and positions a water spray lance to direct a stream of water against internal surfaces over a range of position. Pairs of orthogonally oriented four-bar linkage assemblies are provided, each having rotary actuators. The relative position between a pair of joints affixed to the lance tube allows the position of the lance to be set over a range of positions.

The invention monitors the rotational and translational position of the lance tube and is programmed with a schedule of lance tube rotation rates and blowing medium discharge rates for the specific configuration of the heated surfaces. Based upon the rotational and translational position of the lance tube and the distance the jet travels before impinging upon the heated surfaces, the rate of rotation of the lance tube is varied throughout every rotation to maintain substantially constant progress of the jet across the heated surfaces.

A retractable sootblower for use in cleaning heat exchanger surfaces during a single stroke of its operating cycle. A control system is utilized to vary the rate at which the blowing medium is discharged from the lance tube into the heat exchanger. The rate of discharge is greater during the cleaning stroke of the lance tube than during the non-cleaning stroke.

A sootblower for use in cleaning heat exchanger surfaces in which a drain is provided for selectively draining a portion of the blowing medium from the sootblower lance tube for discarding externally of the heat exchanger. The lance tube drain enables the discharge of blowing medium from the lance tube into the heat exchanger to be reduced during portions of a cleaning cycle in which the lance tube nozzles are not directed toward a surface to be cleaned yet enabling a minimum flow of blowing medium through the lance tube for cooling or other purposes without discharging the minimum flow of blow medium into the heat exchanger.
