A plunger lift lubricator having an internal bypass configuration which enables a plunger to be reliably captured and while still allowing the flow of fluid up through the lubricator before the fluid is directed radially outward and down the internal bypass passageways. The lubricator can comprise both an upper flow path and a lower flow path and can be configured such that a plunger can travel all the way up to shift a valve in the plunger if needed.

Radial flow plunger lift lubricator

A strong connection that ensures alignment between components and which is capable of being used for high-pressure applications. The connection is held together with one or more pins that are positioned tangentially along the interfacing plane of the components and which pins are positioned such that they are placed in sheer along a significant portion of their length instead of merely across their diameter. The pins can be held in place with one or more structures, which can include threaded fasteners, to prevent the pins from being inadvertently removed.

A multistage plunger lift system includes an upper production tubing segment positioned in a wellbore uphole of a lower production tubing segment, with the upper segment having a greater diameter than the lower segment. A lower travelling plunger and an upper traveling plunger are sized and configured to fit and travel within the lower segment and the upper segment, respectively. A plunger lift tool is positioned in the upper segment between the upper plunger and the lower plunger, and includes within its main body a fluid passageway with a one-way valve. A plunger receptacle sleeve at the bottom end of the lift tool receives the lower plunger and includes one or more vents configured to allow fluids to flow around the lower plunger when the lower plunger is received within the plunger receptacle sleeve.

A jet pump, a jet pump data tool system, and method of use thereof. The jet pump includes a body having an intake, a first aperture, and a second aperture between the first aperture and the intake. A carrier is seated in the body and receivable in the first aperture. The carrier includes a venturi for drawing wellbore fluid from the intake into the venturi. A housing for a data tool extends from the carrier. The housing is in fluid communication with the intake for allowing wellbore fluid to be exposed to the data tool. The carrier is seatable in the body by flowing power fluid and the carrier into the first aperture. The carrier is retrievable from the body by flowing power fluid into the second aperture.

A method and apparatus for operating a plunger lift system in a well can include: opening a control valve and allowing a plunger to rise to a top of the well; determining an actual rise time of the plunger based on a time it takes the plunger to rise to the top of the well; using actual rise time of the plunger and a target rise time calculating adjustments to the afterflow time or close time; and allowing the afterflow time to pass before closing the control valve and keeping the valve closed for the close time. The methods are repeated, each time calculating a new adjusted afterflow time or adjusted close time to incrementally alter these times.
