In one embodiment, a method includes receiving a stored copy request indicating data and including a request identifier, scheduling publication of the data to an object store, and sending a subscription request indicating the data and the request identifier to the object store. In another embodiment, a method includes receiving a publication request indicating data to be copied, wherein the publication request is a recording request indicating a channel and a timespan, receiving one or more subscription requests for the data, receiving the data, and generating a copy of the data for each subscription request.

A method includes receiving a request to initiate recording of a media object. The media object includes a first plurality of sequential media segments. The first plurality of sequential media segments is associated with a corresponding plurality of metadata files, each of which providing a description of a respective one of the first plurality of sequential media segments. The method includes generating, in response to receiving the request to initiate recording of the media object, a first common metadata file that is associated with the media object as a function of the corresponding plurality of metadata files. The first common metadata file includes sequencing information associated with the first plurality of sequential media segments. The method includes storing the first plurality of sequential media segments based on the sequencing information included in the first common metadata file.

A method includes storing a first plurality of media objects correspondingly associated with a plurality of metadata objects, each media object including a respective plurality of sequential media segments. The method includes receiving a recording request that is associated with a first one of the first plurality of media objects, and, responsive thereto, updating a metadata object corresponding to the first one of the first plurality of media objects to indicate the recording request. The method includes identifying a portion of the first plurality of media objects, not including the first one of the plurality of metadata objects, that satisfies a deletion criterion. The method includes removing the portion of the first plurality of media objects while maintaining the first one of the first plurality of media objects. A disclosed method is performed at a fault-tolerant object-based storage system including M data storage entities, each is configured to store data on an object-basis. The method includes obtaining a request to store N copies of a data object and in response, storing the N copies of the data object across the M data storage entities, where the N copies are distributed across the M data storage entities. The method additionally includes generating a first parity object for a first subset of M copies of the N copies of the data object, where the first parity object is stored on a first parity storage entity separate from the M data storage entities. The method also includes generating a manifest linking the first parity object with one or more other subsets of M copies of the N copies of the data object.

Method of using common storage of parity data for unique copy recording

Segments of media content may be shared amongst multiple requesting entities in a cDVR environment. In one illustrative example, a first request to initiate recording of media content at a first start time is received from a first requesting entity. In response, a first encrypted copy of a first plurality of content segments of the media content is cached in network memory, in a first encryption window associated with a first encryption key. A first manifest including a first set of URLs is generated and sent to the first requesting entity, where URLs of the first set reference a first identifier of the first encryption window and a respective one of the content segments. If a second request to initiate recording of the media content is received from a second requesting entity at a second start time that does not exceed an interval threshold, no additional copy needs to be made. Here, a second manifest including a second set of URLs is generated and sent to the second requesting entity, where URLs of the second set also reference the first identifier of the first encryption window and a respective one of the content segments.

Method and device for sharing segmented video content across multiple manifests

In one embodiment, a cloud digital video recorder system includes a broadcast content receiver operative to receive broadcast content, a spill agent operative to generate a plurality of different time-period, non-user initiated, recording requests, and a content recorder operative to receive a plurality of user-initiated recording requests of a plurality of users, receive the plurality of different time-period, non-user initiated, recording requests of the spill agent, record the broadcast content into a content storage according to the plurality of user-initiated recording requests and the plurality of different time-period, non-user initiated, recording requests, receive a user-initiated retroactive recording request for a first portion of the broadcast content which has already been recorded to the content storage, and generate a pseudo-recording from the first portion of the broadcast content stored in the content storage according to the user-initiated retroactive recording request. In one embodiment, a method, system and apparatus are described, for uniquely storing, in a memory, for each one user among a plurality of users which recorded a content item, at least one segment of the recorded content item, generating metadata at a metadata generator, the metadata generator configured to associate, for one user among the plurality of users, the at least one segment of the recorded content item recorded by the one user, the metadata including a bitmap uniquely identifying the one user, and determining, at a processor, for each one user of the plurality of users, at least one offset value indicating at least one starting point for the at least one segment of the recorded content item for the one user, the at least one segment of the one user being disposed in a media sequence including a plurality of segments of the content item for different users of the users that recorded the content item, the at least one offset value being determined based, at least, on the bitmap uniquely identifying the one user and a byte size of the at least one segment of the recorded content item. In one embodiment, a method includes receiving a segment of content, determining that the segment is referenced by at least one active record of a recordings database, and, responsive to the determination, storing the segment.

In one embodiment, a first value is computed on a networked computing device, the first value being associated with storing a recording of a broadcast video at a first cloud storage device situated in a first one of a plurality of regions, for playback on a remote client device situated in the first one of the plurality of regions, the first value being a measure of user consumption patterns and use of computing and network resources.
