A communication station is for use with a medical device (such as an infusion pump) and a processing device (such as a computer). The communication station includes a housing, a medical device interface coupled to the housing, a processing device interface coupled to the housing and a processor coupled to the housing. The device interface interfaces with the medical device, and the processing device interface interfaces with the processing device. The processor provides a communication path between the medical device and the processing device such that programming and instructions may be communicated from the processing device to the medical device and data may be transferred from the medical device to the processing device. The communication station may be combined with a system that is capable of generating reports either locally or remotely. In addition, the medical device interface may be a cradle that is configurable to attach to different shaped medical devices.

Communication station and software for interfacing with an infusion pump, analyte monitor, analyte meter, or the like

A telemetered characteristic monitor system includes a remotely located data receiving device, a sensor for producing signal indicative of a characteristic of a user, and a transmitter device. The transmitter device includes a housing, a sensor connector, a processor, and a transmitter. The transmitter receives the signals from the sensor and wirelessly transmits the processed signals to the remotely located data receiving device. The processor coupled to the sensor processes the signals from the sensor for transmission to the remotely located data receiving device. The data receiving device may be a characteristic monitor, a data receiver that provides data to another device, an RF programmer for a medical device, a medication delivery device (such as an infusion pump), or the like.

Telemetered characteristic monitor system and method of using the same

A telemetered characteristic monitor system includes a remotely located data receiving device, a sensor for producing signal indicative of a characteristic of a user, and a transmitter device. The transmitter device includes a housing, a sensor connector, a processor, and a transmitter. The transmitter receives the signals from the sensor and Tirelessly transmits the processed signals to the remotely located data receiving device. The processor coupled to the sensor processes the signals from the sensor for transmission to the remotely located data receiving device. The data receiving device may be a characteristic monitor, a data receiver that provides data to another device, an RF programmer for a medical device, a medication delivery device (such as an infusion pump), or the like.

An infusion system for infusing a liquid into a body includes an external infusion device and a remote commander. The external infusion device includes a housing, a receiver, a processor and an indication device. The receiver is coupled to the housing and for receiving remotely generated commands. The processor is coupled to the housing and the receiver to receive remotely generated commands and to control the external infusion device in accordance with the commands. The indication device indicates when a command has been received and indicates when the command is being utilized to control the external infusion device so that the external infusion device is capable of being concealed from view when being remotely commanded. The remote commander includes a commander housing, a keypad for transmitting commands, and a transmitter for transmitting commands to the receiver of the external infusion device.

External infusion device with remote programming, bolus estimator and/or vibration alarm capabilities

There is provided a method of supplying a fluid to a placement site. For instance, a sensor set is first mounted onto a skin of a user, and a placement site is contacted with the sensor set. The sensor set includes a base to secure the sensor set to the skin of the user; a cannula coupled to and extending from the base; an insertion device operatively coupled to the sensor set and the cannula to facilitate insertion of the cannula to contact the placement site; an externally extending conduit; and a sensor. The cannula has at least one lumen with an end for fluid communication with the placement site, and also has at least one port formed near another end of the lumen opposite the end for fluid communication. The conduit is in fluid communication with the at least one port of the cannula. The sensor has a sensor portion exposed by the at least one port in the at least one lumen of the cannula to determine a body characteristic of the user at the placement site. After the sensor set is mounted on the user's skin, a fluid is introduced through the externally extending conduit and the lumen to the placement site. Kits for carrying out the inventive methods are also provided.

Method and kit for supplying a fluid to a subcutaneous placement site

An implantable subcutaneous set for mounting onto a skin of a user and contacting a subcutaneous placement site beneath the skin includes a base, a cannula, an insertion device and an externally extending conduit. The base is used to secure the implantable subcutaneous set to the skin of the user. The cannula is coupled to and extends from the base. Also, the cannula has at least one lumen with an end for fluid communication with the subcutaneous placement site. In addition, the cannula has at least one port formed near another end of the lumen opposite the end for fluid communication. The insertion device is operatively coupled to the implantable subcutaneous set and the cannula to facilitate insertion of the cannula to contact the subcutaneous placement site. Also, the insertion device may be withdrawn from the subcutaneous set and the cannula after placing the cannula in contact with the subcutaneous placement site. The externally extending conduit is in fluid communication with the at least one port of the cannula to facilitate removal of a fluid that builds up around the at least one lumen of the cannula after insertion of the cannula to substantially prevent degradation of performance of the implantable subcutaneous set while in contact with the subcutaneous placement site. The build up of the fluids are bodily fluids of the user that pool around the port in the at least one lumen of the cannula, and the pool of fluids degrades the performance of the implantable subcutaneous set by obscuring access of other bodily fluids to the at least one lumen of the cannula.
