A wet wipe which includes a pattern bonded polypropylene nonwoven web adapted to provide a sustained controlled release to a surface of an aqueous alcoholic composition contained within the nonwoven web. The nonwoven web has a basis weight of from about 17 to about 100 grams per square meter and includes polypropylene meltblown fibers having diameters in a range of from about 0.01 to about 50 micrometers. The aqueous alcoholic composition contained within the polypropylene nonwoven web is present in a range of from about 300 to about 600 weight percent, based on a dry weight of the nonwoven web of 34 grams per square meter. The wet wipe provides a first release of the aqueous alcoholic composition in a range of from about 40 to about 70 weight percent, a second release in a range of from about 10 to about 25 weight percent, and a third release in a range of from about 5 to about 18 weight percent, of the composition originally present in the nonwoven web. The total amount of the aqueous alcoholic composition remaining in the nonwoven web after three releases is no more than about 25 weight percent, based on the amount of the composition originally present. Also provided is a method of applying a sustained controlled release of an aqueous alcoholic composition to a surface.

Multiple application meltblown nonwoven wet wipe and method

A process for making a melt-blown nonwoven polymeric web for use as a liquid filter medium includes increasing the air (fluid) flow and the forming distance to produce a filter medium that is more bulky and more permeable and therefore resists plugging. The melt-blown process parameters include a polymer through-put between 1.8 and 2.9 PIH, a polymer melt temperature between 530.degree. and 600.degree. F., and air flow rate between 200 and 265 SCFM per square inch, air temperature between 500.degree. and 600.degree. F., forming distance between 12 and 23 inches, and a collector vacuum between 0.5 and 1.0 inch of water.

Method for making melt-blown liquid filter medium

HEPA or pre-HEPA filter media are made by forming a web of melt-blown polypropylene fibers. The melt-blown process is accomplished at a low through-put of about 1 pound per inch of die width per hour and at a high fluid flow rate of about 250 to 325 standard cubic feet per minute. The resulting web has fibers with an average diameter of about 5 microns and surface pores of less than 30 microns in size. By cold calendering the web with pressure of between 100 and 300 psi, further filter efficiency can be achieved. The resulting calendered web has surface pore sizes less than 20 microns.

Melt-blown filter medium

A filter medium is formed by sequentially depositing layers of melt-blown thermoplastic fibers, having the same composition but different sizes, onto a collector. The resulting laminate web has a fiber size gradient across its depth so that the large particulate can be trapped across the filter's depth without prematurely plugging the fine fiber, high efficiency layers.

A composite stove hood filter consists of a primary metal mesh filter and a nonwoven, secondary disposable filter. The secondary filter is a low basis weight (0.2 oz./yd..sup.2 to 1.0 oz./yd..sup.2) spun-bonded polymer sheet which is attached to the primary filter by means of elastic bands or Velcro strips. A patch of melt-blown polymer material, impregnated with air freshener, may be attached to the spun-bonded sheet of the secondary filter to freshen the air as it is filtered.

Disposable stove hood filter

Lightweight, pattern bonded, generally continuous filament web having physical, aesthetic, and functional attributes particularly desirable for liner material for disposable absorbent products such as diapers, sanitary napkins, and the like. In accordance with a preferred embodiment of the invention, a continuous filament polypropylene web is formed and pattern bonded by heat and pressure producing a high frequency of high density bond areas. This bonded web is then subjected to hot embossing in a gross pattern producing permanent web deformation and increasing the web effective thickness. In use the nonwoven web of the invention provides a very soft, flexible web having a pleasing appearance and yet retaining strength properties making it very effective at low basis weights for applications such as liners for disposable diapers, sanitary napkins, and the like. The method of the invention includes melt spinning and accumulating the spun fibers into a web that is pattern bonded in a fine pattern by heat and pressure and then subjected to a gross pattern of embossments under heated conditions.
