Oral irrigator tip

An oral irrigator with back flow prevention is described. The oral irrigator may include a reservoir, a base, a handle, and a one-way or unidirectional valve. The base may support the reservoir and include a pump fluidly connected to the reservoir. The handle may be positioned external the base and in fluid communication with the pump via a hose. The valve may be positioned external the base to inhibit or seal fluid from flowing from a downstream side of the valve toward the pump.

Consumable abrasive-containing oral hygiene tablets are described. The tablets include glycine as an abrasive. The glycine average (Mv) particle size may be greater than 45 &#x3bc;m. The tablets may be used with an oral irrigator and, when placed in the irrigator's fluid flow path, may disintegrate, release the abrasive, and improve the cleaning efficacy of the irrigator.

An oral irrigator handle for receiving an oral hygiene agent is described. The handle may be connected to a countertop oral irrigator or may be a portion of a handheld oral irrigator. The handle includes a chamber for receiving the oral hygiene agent, where the chamber body positioned within the fluid path of the handle. Fluid flowing into the handle, flows into the chamber, allowing the fluid to intermix with the agent, and then flows from the chamber to a tip connected to the handle.

An oral irrigator includes a base having a pump mechanism, a reservoir housed within the base and fluidically connected with the pump mechanism. A handle with a jet tip is connected with an outlet from the pump mechanism to receive a pressurized fluid stream from the reservoir to direct a fluid at a surface inside an oral cavity. The oral irrigator also includes a radiant energy source and delivery system for directing radiant energy at a surface inside an oral cavity.

An oral irrigator including a handle, a tip, and a pump at least partially received within the handle and fluidly coupled to the tip. The pump includes a pump body defining a pump chamber, an inlet valve regulating fluid flow into the pump chamber, an outlet valve regulating fluid flow out of the pump chamber, a piston, and a linkage operably coupled to the piston and a drive shaft of a motor. The linkage translates rotational movement of the drive shaft into movement of the piston in first and second directions within pump chamber. When the piston moves in the first direction, the inlet valve opens, allowing fluid to flow into the pump chamber, and the outlet valve closes. When the piston moves in the second direction, the inlet valve closes and the outlet valve opens, allowing fluid to flow out of the pump chamber.

An irrigating device including a reservoir for storing fluid, a tip fluidly connected to the reservoir, and a pump operative to draw fluid from the reservoir and propel the fluid to the tip. The irrigating device further includes at least one reed valve positioned to regulate fluid between at least one of an inlet port or an exhaust port of the pump.

According to one broad aspect of one embodiment of the present invention, disclosed herein is a hand held oral irrigation device having a tip for dispensing fluids. In one example, an oral irrigation device includes a body portion, and a reservoir for storing fluids, wherein the body and/or the reservoir define a first major diameter at a lower end of the oral irrigation device, and define a second major diameter at an upper end of the oral irrigation device, the first major diameter being larger than the second major diameter. In this example, by providing such a geometry for the device, a user can grasp the device with one hand about the second major diameter during use. In another example, the body includes a pump for pumping fluids from the reservoir to the tip, wherein the pump includes an inlet valve and an outlet valve, the inlet valve including a reed valve made of flexible fabric material. The outlet valve may also include a reed valve made of flexible fabric material.
