Peritoneal dialysis solutions including a glucose polymer and methods of using the dialysis solutions are disclosed herein. In a general embodiment, the peritoneal dialysis solution includes a glucose polymer in an amount to provide an increased ultrafiltration fluid volume for a given amount of carbohydrate absorbed compared to conventional dialysis solutions containing icodextrin as the active pharmaceutical ingredient. The increased ultrafiltration fluid volume for a given amount of carbohydrate absorbed is obtained by providing specific combinations of weight-average molecular weight, polydispersity index and concentration of the glucose polymer in the dialysis solution.

Peritoneal dialysis solutions comprising glucose polymers

Methods of treating a dialysis component by providing a dialysis component and contacting the dialysis component with an enzyme are provided. The enzyme breaks down microbial contaminants in the dialysis component. The enzyme may be separated from the dialysis component to provide a purified dialysis component. The purified dialysis component may be substantially free of microbial contaminants that cause a cytokine response in humans.

Destruction of microbial products by enzymatic digestion

An antimicrobial material incorporated with a molecular halogen is provided. The antimicrobial material includes a plastic material and a molecular halogen entrapped within the plastic material. A directional release material is also provided in the present application. The directional release material allows for the control of the rate and site of halogen release. Still further, method of impregnating a plastic material are also provided.
