This invention is directed to a patch cord cable assembly for use in a high speed transmission cable network, more particularly to an electrical connector which gives the assembly the capability of transmitting data at 100 MHz frequency while offering near-end crosstalk (NEXT) at EIA/TIA 568-A Category 5 performance levels. The preferred electrical connector comprises a pair of interfitting housing members, and a plurality of side-by-side electrical terminals positioned between the housing members for establishing electrical contact with the individual wires of a cable. The terminals are arranged at essentially one end of the housing members and the cable is caused to enter said housing members from an opposite end thereof. One of the housing members includes a cable jacket stop intermediate the ends and plural, spaced-apart posts between the cable jacket stop and the one end. The jacketed cable is fed into one housing member and the jacket about the cable seats in the cable jacket stop with selected pairs of twisted wire continuing toward the one end. Further, the respective pairs of wires are separated from adjacent pairs and spaced apart by the plural posts. Finally, the twists are maintained, and the respective ends of individual wires are positioned for termination to respective electrical terminals.

Patch cord assembly

This invention relates to an electrical connector, such as a modular plug, which offers improved transmission performance, particularly reduced crosstalk and decreased insertion loss. The connector, in its preferred embodiment, comprises a dielectric housing having a central cavity therein extending from a conductor receiving end to a conductor termination end. The termination end includes a plurality of individual staggered slots, each slot receiving an insulated conductor, and means communicating with each slot for receiving a single insulation piercing blade to electrically engage a conductor within the slot. The blades are arranged in plural longitudinally aligned planes and consist of an insulation piercing end and an opposite end for electrically engaging complementary terminals in a matable connector. The blades are further aligned in staggered relationship in two transverse planes while the respective insulation piercing ends are transversely staggered. By this arrangement decreased capacitance coupling and mutual inductances between adjacent conductors is achieved.

Invention relates to a high performance electrical data connector of the type which may be mated with a like connector. The connector comprises an insulative housing having a connector mating face and a conductor receiving face, a floor extending between the faces and a pair of upstanding side walls, plural contact terminals upstanding from the floor intermediate the mating face and the conductor receiving face. The plural contact terminals comprise a conductor receiving portion, a base portion, and a resilient tongue portion reversely bent from the base portion and extending toward the connector mating face. An important feature hereof is the provision of an insulative member integrally molded between the side walls and overlying at least part of each resilient tongue portion, where the insulative member includes staggered plural through slots. Each slot contains a formed shorting assembly consisting of a U-shaped configured, oxide resistant wire having a circular cross section, where the assembly comprises a base portion and a pair of arms angularly extending therefrom, and each arm terminates in an end portion adapted to contact one resilient tongue portion, of a preselected pair of terminals, when the connector is in an unmated condition. By the use of the specially configured, oxide resistant shorting assembly, the skin effect and other factors affecting insertion loss are reduced resulting in improved performance.

The invention provides improved high voltage, low pass filtering connectors. The connectors described herein comprise an assembly having a low impedance path to ground for use in the connector. The assembly comprises a plurality of circuit elements which contribute a fixed amount of impedance to the ground path, a printed circuit board adapted to house the circuit elements, the printed circuit board further having a corresponding plurality of traces in electrical communication with the plurality of circuit elements wherein the traces are adapted to minimize in-line insertion loss to the circuit elements, and a plurality of ground planes in the printed circuit board electrically interfaced in the ground path for providing a low impedance path to ground for the signals bussed to the connector. Connectors described herein ensure efficient low pass filtering of signals at frequencies above the resonant frequency of the connector. Furthermore, the connectors described herein contain epoxy strips and adhesive coatings which prevent high voltage arcing from the circuit elements to other portions of the connector.

High voltage, low pass filtering connector with multiple ground planes

This invention relates to electrical connector terminal arrays, having interference canceling characteristics that meet or exceed the performance requirements of Category 5 components. The arrays are suited for producing connectors of the type for mounting to a printed circuit board. The connectors comprise a dielectric housing into which are mounted four pairs of electrical conductors. The conductors are arranged essentially in parallel fashion where the respective one ends thereof are spaced apart a first uniform distance, and the other respective ends thereof are spaced apart a second uniform distance greater than the first uniform distance. The conductors are further characterized by being arranged in a non-contact overlapping arrangement with the respective conductors of each outer pair in a single overlap of each other. The respective conductors of the center pair cross each other and then each crosses the adjacent conductor twice. By this arrangement, for an 8-conductor connector of the plug and receptacle type, the inner pairs of conductors exhibit a NEXT Loss of at least 45.00 at 100 MHz.

Communications connector terminal arrays having noise cancelling

An access floor module for use with wiring extending beneath the floor of a structure can be used with both high tension and low tension conductors. High tension and low tension outlets can be mounted on the front of a rotatable frame member. Cables are attached to the back and the frame can be inserted into the floor into the plenum beneath the access floor on the same level as the cables and the frame pivotably mounted with respect to the floor. The frame also provides structural support for the module cover.

Hermaphroditic electrical terminals positioned within hermaphroditic insulative housings are suitable for electrical power distribution. Each terminal has an inclined contact arm opposed to a generally flat contact arm. Both contact arms are longitudinally coined. Each generally flat contact arm is sandwiched between the two arms of the other terminal when the two terminals are mated. The convex coined surfaces on the inclined arms engage concave coined surfaces on the generally flat contact of the other terminal to maintain the line contact between convex coined surfaces on the generally flat contact arms in static equilibrium.
