A lock assembly for retaining computer peripheral devices in a housing. The lock assembly includes a spring-loaded lock bar that is movable between an unlock and a lock position. The lock bar is secured in the lock position by engaging a lock pin in one end of the lock bar. The lock pin is coupled for linear movement to a rotateable lock cylinder. A key is used to rotate the lock cylinder between lock and unlock positions. The key may be removed and stored in a secure place after locking the lock assembly to prevent unauthorized removal of peripheral devices from the housing. Brackets are mounted on opposing sides of the housing to retain the lock bar and to provide guide slots for controlling movement of the lock bar between lock and unlock positions.

Linear security mechanism for enclosure

An assembly including a slot in a peripheral device carrier and a tab in a housing for peripheral devices, the assembly providing a structure for retaining compatible peripheral devices in a computer system, and for preventing damage to connectors when an attempt is made to install an incompatible peripheral device. The peripheral devices include a first connector portion for electronically coupling the peripheral device to a processor in a computer system. The peripheral device is installed in the peripheral device carrier that includes a slotted side member and a front member. The slot may be located at one end of the side member, or the side member may be shortened or truncated to avoid the tab when the device carrier is inserted. The side member is attached to the front member thereby forming a portion of a frame for receiving the peripheral device. The housing includes a bay having a second connector portion and at least one opening for receiving the peripheral device carrier. The bay further includes a tab positioned to engage the slotted side member when the peripheral device carrier is inserted in the bay, thereby allowing the first connector to mate with the second connector.

A system and method for mounting a desk side computer system component within a housing. The mounting system includes a component chassis that defines an interior space, a mating slot formed in the component chassis that provides access to the interior space, an adaptive mounting ear and an insertion tab associated with the adaptive mounting ear. The adaptive mounting ear may be operable to simultaneously couple with both the housing and the component chassis. When coupling the adaptive mounting ear to the component chassis, the insertion tab is inserted through the mating slot associated with the component chassis and into the interior space defined by the component chassis. The insertion tab remains within the interior space when the adaptive mounting ear is coupled to the component chassis.

A mounting bracket for an electronics rack having a rack structure defining a plurality of holes spaced along the rack structure to define retma (U) mounting unit increments of the rack. The plurality of holes are spaced along the vertical rack structure in a pattern substantially conforming to an Electronics Industry Association (EIA) standard. The mounting bracket includes a mounting bracket body, a first alignment structure extending from the mounting bracket body, and a second alignment structure extending from the mounting bracket body. The first alignment structure and the second alignment structure each are adapted to engage a hole of the rack structure so as to align the bracket in a position along the rack structure. The first alignment structure and the second alignment structure being spaced apart such that the bracket is alignable along the rack structure both at positions corresponding to whole retma unit increments and at positions corresponding to half retma unit increments. Electronic devices such as computer system servers may be mounted in the rack.
