A process for the decontamination of chemical warfare agents. More particularly, a process for the decontamination of the vesicant HD by oxidation to its corresponding sulfoxide and nerve agents VX and GD by perhydrolysis to their non-toxic phosphonic acids using environmentally safe reactants, specifically a peroxomolybdate compound having a dominant tetraperoxomolybdate species and peroxy anion.

The invention relates to bleach catalysts for use in cleaning or detergent compositions. The bleach catalysts used are water-soluble complexes of (a) one or more cobalt ions and, as ligand, (b) one or more aminated and/or alkylated mono- or oligo-saccharides, optionally in reduced or oxidized form, and salts thereof. The complexes according to the invention are good bleach catalysts and have high hydrolytic stability.

Bleach catalysts

A method for detoxifying substituted and unsubstituted phosphonothiolates and phosphonothioic acids. The method requires reacting the phosphonothiolate or phosphonothioic acid with a sufficient amount of a compound containing an HSO.sub.5 -ion, for a sufficient time and under conditions sufficient to produce a reaction product having less toxicity than the phosphonothiolate or phosphonothioic acid. The preferred compound containing an HSO.sub.5 -ion is potassium monopersulfate, 2KHSO.sub.5.KHSO.sub.4.K2S0.sub.4.
