A bimodal ethylene-co-1-hexene copolymer composition consisting of a higher molecular weight component and a lower molecular weight component and, when in melted form at 190 degrees Celsius, is characterized by a melt property performance defined by a combination of melt index (5 kg), melt strength, and, optionally, shear thinning properties, and, when in solid form, is characterized by a slow crack growth property performance defined by a combination of strain hardening modulus and accelerated full-notch creep test performance. Bimodal polyethylene copolymer composition and pipe made thereof

Disclosed herein are methods of controlling polymer properties in polymerization processes that use a chromium-based catalyst. An embodiment discloses a method of producing a polyolefin comprising: contacting a reaction mixture and a reduced chromium oxide catalyst in a gas-phase reactor to produce the polyolefin, wherein the reaction mixture comprises a monomer and a co-monomer; and changing a reaction temperature in the gas-phase reactor by about 1&#xb0; C. or more whereby a gas molar ratio of the co-monomer to the monomer is changed by about 2% or more and a co-monomer content of the polyolefin at substantially constant density is changed by about 2% or more. Additional methods and compositions are also provided.

Methods for controlling polymer properties

A bimodal polyethylene composition made with a bimodal catalyst system, wherein the bimodal polyethylene composition has from greater than 0 to 14 weight percent of polyethylene polymers having a weight-average molecular weight of from greater than 0 to 10,000 grams per mol, products made therefrom, methods of making and using same, and articles containing same.

Bimodal polyethylene

Provided are various bimodal polyethylene, including but not limited to a bimodal polyethylene for a pipe having a density of from 0.9340 to 0.9470 gram/cubic centimeters (g/ccm), a melt index (12) of from 0.1 to 0.7 gram/10 minute, a melt flow ratio (121/12) of from 20 to 90. The bimodal polyethylene includes a high molecular weight polyethylene component and a low molecular weight polyethylene component which are a reaction product of a polymerization process performed in a single reactor and that employs a bimodal polymerization catalyst system. The bimodal polymerization catalyst system includes a bimodal catalyst system of bis(2-pentamethylphenylamido)ethyl)amine Zirconium dibenzyl and either (tetramethylcyclopentadienyl)(n-propylcyclopentadienyl)Zirconium dichloride or (tetramethylcyclopentadienyl)(n-propylcyclopentadienyl)zirconium dimethyl in a 3.0:1 molar ratio; and a trim catalyst of (tetramethylcyclopentadienyl)(n-propylcyclopentadienyl)Zirconium dichloridedimethyl in heptane added to adjust melt.

Embodiments of the present disclosure directed towards bimodal polymerization catalysts. As an example, the present disclosure provides a bimodal polymerization catalyst system including a non-metallocene olefin polymerization catalyst and a zirconocene catalyst of Formula I: (Formula I) where each of R, R, and Rare independently a Cto Calkyl, aryl or aralkyl group or a hydrogen, where Ris a Cto Calkyl, aryl or aralkyl group, and where each X is independently a halide, Cto Calkyl, aralkyl group or hydrogen. 

Biomodal polymerization catalysts

Embodiments of the present disclosure directed towards polymerization catalysts having improved ethylene enchainment. As an example, the present disclosure provides a polymerization catalyst having improved ethylene enchainment, the polymerization catalyst comprising a zirconocene catalyst of Formula (I) where Ris a Cto Calkyl, aryl or aralkyl group, wherein Ris an Cto Calkyl, aryl or aralkyl group, and where Ris a Cto Calkyl or a hydrogen, and where each X is independently a halide, Cto Calkyl, aralkyl group or hydrogen. 

Polymerization catalysts with improved ethylene enchainment

A film formed from a polyethylene copolymer using a reduced chromium oxide catalyst, ethylene monomers and a co-monomer selected from butene monomers or 1-hexene, where the polyethylene copolymer has a density in the range of from about 0.935 to about 0.950 g/cmand an I/Iin a range of about 18.0 to about 30.0. The film formed from the polyethylene copolymer has a dart drop impact (g/&#x3bc;m) that significantly greater as compared to a film of the polyethylene copolymer formed using a silyl chromate catalyst in place of the reduced chromium oxide catalyst. A method of making such films is also provided.

Spray-dried catalyst compositions comprising a transition metal complex and polymerization processes employing the same are disclosed herein. An embodiment provides a spray-dried catalyst composition comprising a transition metal catalyst component represented by the following formula: (I) and polymerization process employing the same.

Provided are various compositions, including but not limited to a bimodal polyethylene composition having a density of 0.940 g/cc or more, the composition comprising a high molecular weight polyethylene component and a low molecular weight polyethylene component, wherein the composition qualifies as a PE 100 material such that in accordance with ISO 1167 a pipe formed from the composition that is subjected to internal pipe resistance has an extrapolated stress of 10 MPa or more when the internal pipe resistance curve is extrapolated to 50 or 100 years in accordance with ISO 9080:2003(E), and wherein the melt strength is greater than 18 cN.

Disclosed herein are various processes, including continuous fluidized-bed gas-phase polymerization processes for making a high strength, high density polyethylene copolymer, comprising (including): contacting monomers that include ethylene and optionally at least one non-ethylene monomer with fluidized catalyst particles in a gas phase in the presence of hydrogen gas at an ethylene partial pressure of 100 psi or more and a polymerization temperature of 120&#xb0; C. or less to produce a polyethylene copolymer having a density of 0.945 g/cc or more and an ESCR Index of 1.0 or more wherein the catalyst particles are prepared at an activation temperature of 700&#xb0; C. or less, and include silica, chromium, and titanium.

Blow molding polyethylene resins

Disclosed herein are various processes, including continuous fluidized-bed gas-phase polymerization processes for making a high strength, high density polyethylene copolymer, comprising (including): contacting monomers that include ethylene and optionally at least one non-ethylene monomer with fluidized catalyst particles in a gas phase in the presence of hydrogen gas at an ethylene partial pressure of 100 psi or more and a polymerization temperature of 105&#xb0; C. or less to produce a polyethylene copolymer having a density of 0.945 g/cc or more and an ESCR Index of 1.0 or more wherein the catalyst particles are prepared at an activation temperature of 700&#xb0; C. or less, and include silica, chromium, and titanium.

Polyethylene resins having improved environmental stress crack resistance, stiffness and impact resistance is made by a process comprising feeding both a chromium oxide catalyst and a silyl chromium catalyst into a polymerization reactor. The chromium oxide catalyst and the silyl chromium catalyst are on separate supports. The chromium oxide catalyst is 25&#x2013;50 weight percent and the silyl chromium catalyst is 50&#x2013;75 weight percent of the total weight of catalyst. The catalysts may be added separately or as a single mixture.
