Methods and Systems are provided for interfacing to navigation operations. An application programming interface (API) library is provided having navigation modules, guidance modules, routing modules, and mapping modules. The API is accessible to customized modules operating on a portable electronic device. The customized modules are operable to selectively access and process a number of the modules using the API library while the customized modules are processing on the portable electronic device.

Methods and systems to interface navigation operations

Systems and methods are provided for complementary navigation devices with various integrated positioning functionality. The navigation method includes providing a first navigation device. The first navigation device includes a triangulation positioning functionality. The method includes providing a second navigation device adapted to communicate with the first navigation device. The second navigation device includes one or more dead reckoning positioning components. The method further includes resolving a position of the first and the second navigation devices. Resolving the position includes using the one or more dead reckoning positioning components in complement to the triangulation positioning functionality to determine the position when the triangulation positioning functionality is degraded.

It is determined whether at least one criterion is satisfied for using the selected SBAS satellite as a correction source and then processing the correction message received therefrom. A second SBAS satellite is selected from which to receive SBAS correction messages upon determining that at least one criterion is not satisfied for using the selected SBAS satellite as a correction source. One example of SBAS is the Wide Area Augmentation System (WAAS) used in North America. Other aspects and embodiments are provided herein.

A navigation device for navigating a vehicle to a point comprises a GPS receiver for receiving GPS signals, a processor connected with the receiver for processing the GPS signals, navigation data created by the processor, and a display page. The navigation data includes ground speed, altitude, vertical speed and rate of turn information, and the display page presents this information in individual graphic, circular displays representative of an aircraft instrument panel.

A method and system are provided for minimizing storage and processing of ionospheric grid point corrections transmitted from WAAS satellites in a global positioning system. Based upon a current location, the system creates a boundary around the current location and collects ionospheric grid point corrections within the boundary. The collected correction points are used to correct the position initially determined by a global positioning system.

Systems, devices and methods are provided improving the accuracy, availability and integrity of GPS service. Specifically, the present invention provides a GPS device with the correction messages which are from the most accurate and desirable source while at the same time conserving processor and memory resources of the device. The method includes receiving GPS data. An SBAS signal from a first correction source is received. Ionospheric mask messages, for a number of grid points, in the received SBAS signal are analyzed. An abbreviated bounding region around a group of similar type grid points is constructed. The method further includes determining whether the position of the GPS device is within the abbreviated bounding region.
