The present invention provides a removable vena cava filter for capturing and treating blood clots in a blood vessel. The filter comprises a hub, a plurality of struts extending distally from the hub, and a tubular member disposed through the hub. The tubular member has a proximal end and a distal portion including a plurality of perforations. A catheter may be attached to the proximal end of the tubular member. Fluid may be injected into the catheter to treat blood clots captured in the filter.

Temporary venous filter with anti-coagulant delivery method

Among other things, a flow-controlling catheter hub configured to connect with and adjust fluid flow to a catheter is shown. The hub includes a main body, a valve, and a luer fitting adapter. The main body, valve, and luer fitting adapter each have an interior passageway to receive and conduct fluid flow when the parts are assembled together. The valve is configured to engage the interior passageway of the main body to block fluid flow when the valve is in a closed position. When the valve is in an open position the valve is moved away from the interior passageway of the main body and fluid flows through the interior passageway of the main body. The luer fitting adapter freely rotates in the valve while the valve is adjusted relative to the main body. Adjustment of fluid flow to the catheter is possible without disturbing connections between parts.

A medical catheter assembly is provided including an inner catheter member, where that inner catheter member includes a plurality of inner catheter lumens, and an outer sheath with at least one patent sheath lumen. The inner catheter is slidably disposed through a length of the at least one patent sheath lumen in a manner providing a substantially sealing contact between an exterior surface of the inner catheter and an inward surface of the at least one patent sheath lumen. A first of the plurality of inner catheter lumens includes a plurality of apertures to the exterior surface of the inner catheter, and a second of the plurality of inner catheter lumens includes at least one distal end-tip opening. A method of using the assembly is also provided.

Delivery systems and methods of creating an accessory maxillary ostium and implanting a ventilation tube for purposes of ventilation, irrigation, infusion or procedural work are described. The delivery systems include an introducer and an associated ventilation tube. An irrigation and/or infusion catheter may be advanced through the ventilation tube in order to irrigate or express the contents of the sinus cavities. A secondary irrigation and/or infusion catheter or a balloon catheter may be advanced through an outer irrigation and/or infusion catheter, deeply into the sinus cavity, in order to irrigate or express the contents of the sinus cavities. Moreover, the balloon catheter may alternatively or additionally be employed to for dilation of the natural ostium. Still further, a device for delivering drugs, fluids or the like, may be coupled to the ventilation tube for delivery of same.

A guidable cutting instrument for cutting a tissue specimen from a tissue mass comprises a cannula having a curve formed along a distal portion thereof, and a stylet having a specimen-receiving notch and a curve formed along a distal portion thereof. The stylet is received in the cannula, and is axially extendable therefrom such that the notch is capable of penetrating the tissue mass. The cannula is axially movable over the extended stylet for severing the specimen from the mass for capture in the notch. The cannula and stylet are each structured and arranged for relative rotation between a first position wherein the cannula curve and the stylet curve are in phase to define a curved condition for a length of the cutting instrument, and a second position wherein the cannula curve or stylet curve is rotated relative to the other curve in a manner to define a generally linear condition of the cutting instrument. The selective relative curvature allows the cutting instrument to be steered around obstructions encountered in the body under real time visualization.

In at least one embodiment of the present invention, a method for making embolization particles for occluding fluid flow through a body vessel is provided. The method comprises positioning an elongated body of biocompatible material relative to a cutting device. The elongated body is defined by extrusion of a body cross-section along a longitudinal axis. The elongated body is cut with a cutting device at a plurality of locations along the longitudinal axis to form the embolization particles such that each of the embolization particles has a particle cross-section that corresponds to the body cross-section.

A method and system for cleaning foreign material from a fluid reservoir of an implantable medical device, the fluid reservoir being substantially enclosed in an interior portion of the implantable device and accessible from an environment exterior of the implantable device through a penetrable septum. An elongated member having a first end and a second end is engaged with a source of ultrasonic energy capable of imparting vibrations to the first end. The septum is penetrated by the elongated member in a manner such that the first end extends into the fluid reservoir, and the second end does not extend into the reservoir. The ultrasonic energy source is activated to impart vibrations into the reservoir via the elongated member first end, in an amount sufficient to break up the foreign material into particulates, which can then be removed from the reservoir.
