An apparatus and a method for opportunistic user scheduling of two-cell multiple user Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO) by a base station, the method comprising: broadcasting signals through random beams to users; and receiving Channel Quality Information (CQI) from best K user set. Method and apparatus for opportunistic user scheduling of two-cell multiple user MIMO

A Mobile Station (MS) apparatus and a Base Station (BS) apparatus, and methods for their operation in a wireless communication system, are provided. The method for operating the MS includes receiving Precoding Matrix Index (PMI) subset information from a BS, determining downlink channel quality of the BS, determining a PMI for the BS based on the PMI subset information and the determined downlink channel quality of the BS, and transmitting the determined PMI to the BS.

Downlink PMI coordination based on base station antenna configuration

A transmission apparatus in a Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO)-based wireless communication system. The transmission apparatus includes at least two antenna groups each having at least two antennas, wherein the antenna groups are spaced apart by a first distance and transmit antennas in each antenna group are spaced apart by a second distance which is shorter than the first distance. A channel coding and modulation unit channel-codes and modulates a desired transmission data stream. A precoding unit precodes the channel-coded and modulated signal separately for each antenna group and each antenna in the same antenna group. Thereafter, a transmission processing unit transmission-processes the output signal from the precoding unit.
