Variants ofsp. TS-23 strain alpha-amylases exhibit improved enzymatic performance, including increased thermostability, reduced calcium dependence, increased washing/cleaning performance, and baking ability. Compositions comprising these variants are useful in methods of starch processing, starch liquefaction, fermatation, starch saccharification, cleaning, laundrying, textile desizing, baking, and biofilm removal.

Compositions comprising these variants are useful in methods of starch processing, starch liquefaction, fermatation, starch saccharification, cleaning, laundrying, textile desizing, baking, and biofilm removal.

Low odor, hard surface cleaner with enhanced soil removal

The present invention provides an abrasive-free cleaning composition which includes, in aqueous solution, a bleach, a colloidal thickener, and a source of divalent ionic calcium. The composition further includes at least one surfactant which is effective to provide cleaning activity and, in association with the colloidal thickener, thickening. The composition also includes an electrolyte/buffer which is effective to promote an environment in which the thickener and the surfactant associate to provide proper thickening. The inventive cleaning composition, with its ionic calcium source, has desirable viscosity and rheological properties, and demonstrates significant viscosity stability, rheological stability, phase stability and bleach stability. The cleaning composition maintains these desirable properties under typical storage conditions as well as over extended times and at elevated temperatures. The present invention also provides a method of preparing an abrasive-free cleaning composition and a method of cleaning a substrate with an abrasive-free cleaning composition. The present invention further provides a composition having the above-mentioned advantages, which is particularly useful in the cleaning of ceramic substrates, such as toilet bowls, and has additional advantages for this application.

Thickened aqueous composition for the cleaning of a ceramic surface and methods of preparation thereof and cleaning therewith

An improved cleaning composition is provided for shower and tub surfaces which is of the &ldquo;shower rinsing&rdquo; type, requiring no scrubbing, wiping, or immediate rinsing. The composition comprises: (a) a glycoside surfactant, the total amount of said surfactant being present in a cleaning effective amount; (b) a chelating agent, said chelating agent present in an amount effective to enhance bathroom soil removal in said composition; and (c) the remainder, water. A solvent such as isopropyl alcohol may also be added. The employment of a glycoside surfactant, especially one having an HLB value of greater than 13, remarkably improves the performance of such a shower rinsing composition both with respect to surface appearance streaking and filming and also bathroom soil and soap scum removing ability.

Shower rinsing composition

An improved cleaning composition is provided for shower and tub surfaces which is of the 'shower rinsing' type, requiring no scrubbing, wiping, or immediate rinsing. The composition comprises: (a) a glycoside surfactant, the total amount of said surfactant being present in a cleaning effective amount; (b) a chelating agent, said chelating agent present in an amount effective to enhance bathroom soil removal in said composition; and (c) the remainder, water. A solvent such as isopropyl alcohol may also be added. The employment of a glycoside surfactant, especially one having an HLB value of greater than 13, remarkably improves the performance of such a shower rinsing composition both with respect to surface appearance streaking and filming and also bathroom soil and soap scum removing ability.

The invention provides a bleaching gel cleaner and a method for preparing it, said cleaner comprising: a) an effective amount of a hypochlorite-generating compound; b) a ternary thickening system which comprises: (i) alkali metal soap; (ii) a hydrotrope selected from the group consisting of trialkylamine oxides, betaines and mixtures thereof; and (iii) a bleach stable solvent, each in amounts appropriate to create a gelled composition; c) a buffer/electrolyte in an amount effective to stabilize the hypochlorite; and d) the remainder as water.

The invention provides liquid cleaning or bleaching compositions containing compounds having the structure of Formula I ##STR1## wherein A is a saturated ring formed by five atoms in addition to the N.sub.1 atom, the five saturated ring atoms being four carbon atoms and a heteroatom, the substituent R.sub.1 bound to the N.sub.1 atom of the Formula I structure including either (a) a C.sub.1-24 alkyl or alkoxylated alkyl where the alkoxy is C.sub.2-4, (b) a C.sub.4-24 cycloalkyl, (c) a C.sub.7-24 alkaryl, (d) a repeating or nonrepeating alkoxy or alkoxylated alcohol, where the alkoxy unit is C.sub.2-4, or (e) --CR.sub.2 R.sub.3 CN where R.sub.2 and R.sub.3 are each H, a C.sub.1-24 alkyl, cycloalkyl, or alkaryl, or a repeating or nonrepeating alkoxyl or alkoxylated alcohol where the alkoxy unit is C.sub.2-4, the R.sub.2 and R.sub.3 substituents are each H, a C.sub.1-24 alkyl, cycloalkyl, or alkaryl, or a repeating or nonrepeating alkoxyl or alkoxylated alcohol where the alkoxy unit is C.sub.2-4, and wherein Y is a generally anionic counterion and Z is in the range of 0 to 10. Additional, adjunct materials commonly found in liquid cleaning and bleaching compositions can be added.
