A chamber assembly for generating waves includes a chamber for releasing water to generate a wave, the chamber comprising a sensor and an ingress valve; and a control system connected to the sensor and the ingress valve, wherein the control system receives input from the sensor to enable the control system to selectively control the position of the ingress valve to thereby permit air into the chamber to effect the release of water from the chamber.

Exemplary embodiments include using exhaust valves in each chamber to control the performance of fans. Measuring the power consumed by the fans in real time allows determination of the amount of air to be evacuated from the pneumatic system (and thus an opening angle of the exhaust valves) so that the fans operate at maximum efficiency and with less instability. In an exemplary embodiment, a valve mounted on the fan inlet allows the incoming air flow to be controlled, thereby allow the motors to continue rotating at a given speed with little or no energy consumption when the valve is partially or fully closed.

A variable volume plenum for use in a wave pool comprising at least one wave generating chamber in pneumatic communication with a plenum. The plenum is configured to have a variable volume such that when the pressure increases in the plenum, the variable volume plenum will increase in volume, and when pressure drops in the plenum, the variable volume plenum will retract so the fans can stay at maximum efficiency.
