The ballast system for a portable basketball system is composed of dual ballast fillable tanks, which together form the base for supporting the pole, backboard and goal. The dual tank system includes a primary tank and a secondary tank cooperatively configured such that the secondary tank may be disposed in one position for compact shipping/storage and in another position to ensure stability during play. In particular, the secondary tank is centrally disposed within the dimensions of the primary tank during shipping. During play, the secondary tank is repositioned in a manner that elongates the primary tank to increase the footprint of the portable basketball system and concentrate the ballast of the secondary tank at the rear of the base.

A basketball mounting system for an in-ground basketball system has a flanged basketball support pole and a flanged ground sleeve receiving a portion of the pole in overlapping relationship. The flanges are connected together by removable fasteners such as threaded bolts. In addition, the mounting system may include jacking members in the pole flange to facilitate removal of the pole from the ground sleeve. The jacking members include members such as threaded bolts passing through the pole flange that, when rotated in one direction, press against the ground sleeve flange causing the pole and the ground sleeve to separate.

The present invention provides a label applicator for removing pressure-sensitive, very thin, sub-surface printed labels from a web and applying the labels to PCMCIA memory cards carried on a shuttle such that the labels are more reliably and exactly placed than conventional labelers. The label applicator includes a peel plate for removing the adhesive-backed labels from a web and a vacuum applicator drum for transferring the labels from the peel plate to an unlabeled article carried on the shuttle. The shuttle is provided with micrometers to separately adjust the position of the memory cards about three independent axes to allow greater precision in label placement. Placement of labels on the memory cards is also enhanced through the use of a number of sensors which determine relative positions of the labels on the transfer drum and the linearly moving shuttle so that rotation of the drum can be synchronized to match movement of the shuttle.

An improved trailer tongue jack including an outer tube and an inner tube which is slidable within the outer tube. The lower end of the inner tube carries a terrain engaging member, such as a caster wheel or sand shoe. A nut is mounted within the inner tube and is threaded on a screw and the upper end of the screw carries a bevel gear which meshes with a second bevel gear mounted on a handle. The bevel gears are supported within a polymeric cup mounted in the upper end of the outer tube and the cup also serves to rotatably support the handle as well as the upper end of the screw and further functions, along with a thrust washer, as a thrust bearing for the screw. The jack also includes an improved locking mechanism for locking the jack in either a vertical or horizontal position. A U-shaped swivel bracket is secured to the outer surface of the outer tube and the lower end portion of a locking member is mounted for movement within aligned openings in flanges of the swivel bracket. The upper end of the locking member is engageable with a hole in a mounting bracket secured to the trailer tongue to lock the jack in position relative to the tongue. A torsion spring associated with the lower end portion of the locking member serves to bias the locking member to the locking position.

A roll-up door has a bottom bar attached to the flexible curtain of the door. The bottom bar has transverse openings at each end adjacent to the jambs of the door frame. A breakaway shaft travels in a track in each jamb and has one end normally seated in a respective transverse opening by the interaction of spring loaded ball detents and detent recesses in the shaft and bar. The opposite ends of the shafts are connected to a counterforce mechanism that urges the shaft downwardly and are also connected to a strap wound with the curtain drum to urge the shafts upwardly against the counterforce. The breakaway shafts will separate from the bar upon impact to free the bar from engagement with the jamb and prevent damage to the door. The breakaway shafts may then be reconnected with the bottom bar and reset by unwinding the curtain to an overtravel position that is beyond the normal closed position of the door. A counterforce mechanism is also disclosed in which a counterweight balances the weight of the curtain on the drum and a spring attached between the counterweight and a tension line connected to the breakaway shaft holds the curtain taut.

A roll-up door in which the bottom bar is attached to the flexible door curtain has a transverse opening at an end adjacent to a jamb of the frame of the door. A breakaway shaft travels in a track in the jamb and has one end that normally seats in the transverse opening and provides a link between the bottom bar and the jamb. The other end of the shaft is restrained so that the shaft is held in a generally horizontal attitude. The opening in the bar and the breakaway shaft have cooperating means to normally retain the shaft in the opening but which are releasable upon a force striking the curtain or bottom bar. The breakaway shaft will separate from the bar upon impact thereby freeing the bar from engagement withthe jamb and preventing damage. The breakaway shaft may thereafter be reinserted into the opening in the bar to reconnect the bottom bar to the track and permit continued operation of the door. The invention further includes a provision for halting the operation of the door upon impact through the use of a switch actuator mounted in the opening in the bar and normally engageable by the breakaway shaft. The actuator is released when the shaft leaves the opening to thereby disable the drive for rolling and unrolling the curtain.
