A suture cutter of the chopper type uniquely adapted to permit using the blade portion as a probe to be inserted between the skin and a suture, with an opposed anvil portion not necessarily adapted to be used as a probe being brought in contact with the suture, thus capturing and severing it the suture between blade and anvil. Using the blade instead of the anvil as the probe permits design of an anvil which optimally serves its desired function.

A shield overlies a razor head having a lubrication strip disposed behind the cutting edges of the blades disposed on the head. The shield is spaced from the head to facilitate drying the strip and hence reduce swelling or enlargement of the lubrication strip due to moisture absorption following shaving. The shield also has a plurality of openings through its base to facilitate circulation of air in the space between the shield and the head whereby drying of the lubrication strip and, hence, reduction of its enlargement are further accomplished.

The shaving implement comprises a housing having a plurality of apertures through a shaving surface, each aperture containing a razor assemblage. Each assemblage includes a soap bar guard and a razor blade connected to one another and mounted for angular and linear floating movement in the housing on a resilient pad. The soap bar guard extends beyond the periphery of the cutting edge of the blade and defines an annular opening for receiving debris from the shaving action. The razor blade is circular and may be flat, dished or concave or have an annular planar margin with a cup-shaped depression so that the connection between the blade and guard lies below the plane containing the razor edge.

A dispenser for double-edge razor blades includes a tray and a cover overlying the tray. The cover has side flanges for overlying the sides of the tray and inwardly extending projections for cooperating with inwardly directed locking surfaces on the tray to maintain the cover and tray in assembly. Openings are provided through the cover in registration with the inwardly extending projections such that the plastic molding of the cover can be accomplished without side action of mold parts. The tray includes a body portion and a pair of inwardly extending ledges spaced from the body portion defining a used blade compartment. The body portion has a pair of openings in registration with the ledges and having at least like lateral and longitudinal extent as the ledges whereby the tray may be molded without side action mold parts.

The invention relates to a razor head comprising a cap 26 having two elongated surfaces, each with longitudinal and lateral dimensions. One of the surfaces is curved. The razor head also has a platform 22 having elongated surfaces adapted to conform to those of the cap. A flexible curved shaving blade 28 and a pair of tandem straight shaving blades 30 and 32, each blade defining a plurality of locating holes are disposed between the cap and platform and are contained therebetween to conform to the elongated surfaces thereof. The cap also has a plurality of locating pins 34 and 36 extending therefrom to the platform through the holes defined by the blades. The pins have parallel axes. Pins 34, associated with the curved surface, are oriented at an angle to a plane normal to an axis of curvature of the curved surface of the cap. Both pins 34, and pins 36 associated with the straight blades, are oriented at an angle to a plane lying along the longitudinal dimension of and normal to the respective elongated cap surface to which they are attached. The above-described pin orientations provide close alignment tolerances perpendicular to the cutting edges of the blades, i.e., the lateral dimension, but allow some longitudinal dimension alignment gap parallel to the cutting edges, for ease of manufacture. Methods of manufacture are also disclosed.

An integrally backed single-edge razor blade has a plurality of projections struck from a margin of the blade remote from its cutting edge. The struck portions reinforce the blade and afford a blade edge remote from the cutting edge having a thickness greater than the thickness of the material forming the body of the blade. The blade may be formed by passing stock blade material through opposed dies for forming the projections as well as the conventional perforations through the blade.

A safety razor having a handle carrying a head having two projecting tongues, a platform having a pair of undercut recesses for receiving the tongues and a shield for overlying the razor blade head. The platform includes along its underside a retaining edge opposite the undercuts, a pair of centering ribs spaced one from the other and with tapered edges for engaging the end edges of the handle head, and a pair of crush ribs adjacent the undercuts to bias the head and platform away from one another in final securement. To assemble the safety razor, the handle head tongues are inserted into the undercuts and the handle is pivoted to seat the back edge of its head beneath the underside of the platform edge. The pivoting action causes the handle end edges to bear against the tapered centering ribs centering the handle relative to the platform and the crush ribs to engage the head to afford a tight fit. The shield is generally channel-shaped and has angled end edges and lugs at each of the opposite corners for engaging in chamfers formed along the underside of the platform to facilitate centering of the shield on the platform.

A utility blade dispenser having an open channel conforming to the configuration of the cutting portion of a utility blade. The channel base is defined by an upward supporting surface, and its top by a blade follower which is engaged in a pawl and ratchet fashion with tracks on the sides of a slot at the rear of the channel. The dispenser body can be molded in a two-piece mold to form an exceptionally strong blade dispenser package.

Razor packaging includes a plurality of razors having handles and heads nested in front-to-back serial relation adjacent one another, with threads being disposed over the top and bottom portions of the razor heads on opposite sides thereof and looped one with the other to preclude displacement of the razors relative to one another. An elongated edge of the head of the razor overlies an edge of the next adjacent serially connected razor whereby the razor heads are stepped relative to one another. The last razor is secured to a tag by stitching the threads extending from the group of razors into the tag. An aperture is provided in the tag such that the razor package can be disposed on a hook for hanging from a displayboard. In this manner, groups of razors are precluded from disconnection one with the other absent severing the threads by the ultimate end user.
