An indexable piercing tip mounts to a nose portion of one of the jaws of a heavy-duty demolition shears so as to enclose and protect top, bottom, front, and two opposing side surfaces of the nose portion during use of the shears. The piercing tip has a first operative position in which a first set of piercing and shearing edges of the piercing tip are presented for use. When the first set gets dull or worn, the piercing tip can be rotated/indexed 180° degrees so as to present a second set of piercing and shearing edges of the piercing tip for use.

Heavy-duty material processors (e.g., shears, concrete crushers) include a jaw that pivotally connects to another jaw. A hydraulic cylinder extends between the jaws to open and close the jaws in a shearing motion. Cutting/shearing/crushing blade inserts mount to detachable blade holders, which in turn mount to one of the jaws. Wedge blocks securely and detachably attach the blade inserts to the remainder of their associated jaw, and rely on force-amplifying wedge surfaces to ensure a secure attachment. The detachable blade holders may include lateral flanges that extend across an otherwise exposed face of their respective underlying jaw bodies to protect the jaw bodies during use. A blade on one of the jaws is laterally adjustable, which helps to free a jam if one of the jaws gets jammed into the space between blades in the other jaw.

The invention features an indexable wear plate/piercing tip insert that is configured to be removably and repositionably attached to the front, nose portion of the upper, movable jaw of a metal demolition shears. The insert functions as both a wear plate and a piercing tip and is indexable in that a non-worn or less worn portion of the wear surface of the wear plate portion of the insert, and non-worn shearing and piercing edges of the piercing tip portion of the insert, can be presented simultaneously simply by rotating the insert 180&#xb0; and reattaching it to the nose portion of the upper, movable jaw of a metal demolition shears.

A mounting bracket is designed to interchangeably connect a processor attachment to the stick of a larger excavator or the boom of a smaller excavator in place of the stick. The mounting bracket includes mounting assemblies that are designed to operatively attach the bracket to the stick and related bucket cylinder linkage assembly of a larger excavator. The mounting bracket also includes mounting assemblies that are designed to operatively attach the bracket to the boom and related stick cylinder of a smaller excavator. The mounting bracket may avoid the need to obtain and maintain plural mounting brackets for different mounting applications (e.g., stick or boom).

A lubricating system for a heavy-duty material processing shears provides lubricant to one of more wear surfaces on one or more wear portions in the shears. The system includes a hydraulic lubricant pump that is actuated by the main hydraulic control system by means of which the jaws of the shears are opened and closed, and may include a sequential valve to distribute lubricant to various wear portions in sequential fashion. The lubricating system may lubricate one or more wear surfaces of the lateral blade stabilizers, primary and secondary blade(s) on the upper and/or lower jaws, pivotal connections between jaws and/or between the upper jaw and the hydraulic cylinder, a forward wear plate, or any other wear portion of the shears. The lubricating system may be retrofitted onto a conventional non-lubricated shears by replacing a conventional upper jaw with an upper jaw with lubricant conduits and a lubricating system.

A lubricating system for a heavy-duty metal demolition shears provides lubricating lubricant to one of more wear parts. The system includes a hydraulic lubricant pump that is actuated by the main hydraulic control system that opens and closes the jaws of the shears. The lubricant pump may include a sequential valve to distribute lubricant to various wear parts in sequential fashion. As disclosed herein, wear parts that may be lubricated by a lubricating system as per the invention include (but are not limited to) lateral blade stabilizers, a guide blade, and cutting blade insert members.

A demolition shear has a pair of pivotably movable elongated jaws each having a pivot portion and an elongated jaw portion extending therefrom. The lower jaw portion has a cutter side wall, a guide side wall and an outer end wall, and the cutter side wall has an upper working surface with a generally V-shaped configuration, and a recess providing a blade seating shoulder extending parallel to the upper surface. The end shoulder at the proximal end intersects at an obtuse angle with the blade seating shoulder, and defines a reference plane. Seated on the shoulder are abutting; elongated rhimboidal lower cutter blades with end faces extending parallel to the reference plane. The outer end wall has an inner surface portion has a blade seating shoulder on its inner surface on which is seated a cross cutter blade. The guide side wall has a recess adjacent the outer end wall which provides a blade seating shoulder on which is seated a guide blade. The distal end surfaces of the guide and distal cutter blades extend parallel to the reference plane and bear firmly against the cross cutter blade which also lies in parallel plane. The upper jaw has an invention V-shape pivot portion and a jaw portion extending therefrom with a cutter side surface adjacent the cutter side surface of the lower jaw and a guide side surface. Its cutter side surface has a recess providing a blade seating shoulder on which is seated a pair of abutting elongated rhomboidal upper cutter blades.
