The present invention is a floating platform capable of supporting a turbine assembly. The platform and turbine assembly may be configured so as to resist drag. Drag may be absorbed by holding members attached to the present invention above and below the moment center. Furthermore a pivoting cable may be incorporated in the turbine assembly whereby the turbine assembly is moveable and thereby able to absorb drag that is exercised upon a non-moveable rigidly positioned turbine as excessive torque on the turbine rotors. The turbine assembly is further pivotable between vertical (working) and horizontal (transportable) positions.

Torque neutralizing turbine mooring system

This invention relates to a lubricating film type gas seal having a stationary sealing ring (stator) with a radially extending sealing face and a rotating mating seal component (mating rotor) with a radially extending sealing face. The present seal has a reduced number of components and is greatly simplified from working seals described in prior art. The mating rotor is deliberately flexible, and hence it may distort (tilt) throughout an angular range during hydrostatic and hydrodynamic operation and is dependent on rotational speed, pressure, temperature and is also a function of its material and geometric properties. The stationary ring sealing face complies to and follows the angular distortion (tilting) of the mating rotor sealing face in a converging or diverging manner throughout the hydrostatic and hydrodynamic operational range. The flexibility of the stator is a function of its geometric and material properties. Mating rotor and stator flexibility is preferably matched (e.g. using Finite Element Analysis (FEA) techniques) to provide a system flexibility which produces optimum sealing performance. The mating rotor may possess multiple radial sealing surfaces as well as one or more cylindrical sealing surfaces. Initial mating rotor and/or stator seal face angular deflection may be introduced by applying stress and producing subsequent deformation of the structure by a mechanical means.

Gas shaft seal with flexible converging sealing faces

A rotary fluid machine suitable for transferring energy between a fluid and a rotor assembly is disclosed. The rotor assembly contains a shaft carrying one or more impellers which are located between axially spaced radial bearings in a beam-type arrangement. The rotary fluid machine is of the beam type--i.e. it has one end of the shaft extending beyond one end wall of the housing and one end of the shaft terminating within the housing. Two passages are formed in the housing to allow fluid to flow in and out of the machine. One passage is formed in the housing parallel to and coaxial with the rotational axis of the rotor assembly. Fluid moving between the passage parallel to and coaxial with the rotational axis does not have to be redirected thus reducing fluid turbulence and improving machine efficiency.

Axial inlet beam-type compressor

The axial forces imposed on a rotor of a fluid machine such as a compressor is controlled by modulating the pressure supplied to a piston and cylinder device acting between the rotor shaft and housing. A parameter indicative of axial force on the rotor during operation is monitored and changes in the magnitude and direction of the axial forces countered by varying the pressure in the cylinder. The net axial forces imposed on the shaft may thus be controlled in a predetermined range.
