A transport refrigeration system (TRS) and method of operating a TRS having a sorption subsystem are disclosed. The TRS includes a refrigeration subsystem and a sorption subsystem. The refrigeration subsystem includes a refrigerant, a compressor, a refrigerant condenser, a refrigerant expansion device, and a refrigerant evaporator in fluid communication such that the refrigerant can flow therethrough. The sorption subsystem includes a heat transfer fluid, a heat source, a boiler, a sorption condenser, a sorption expansion valve, a sorption evaporator, and a pump in fluid communication such that the heat transfer fluid can flow therethrough. The sorption evaporator is in thermal communication with the refrigeration subsystem.

Sorption system in a transport refrigeration system

A refrigeration system includes a two-stage linear compressor having a first piston disposed in a first cylinder and a second piston disposed in a second cylinder. The linear compressor is operable in an economizer cycle wherein the first piston operates as a first stage of the economizer cycle and the second piston operates as a second stage of the economizer cycle. A controller is coupled to the linear compressor to control a volume flow ratio of the linear compressor. The controller stores a plurality of coefficients of performance for a range of particular operating conditions of the linear compressor and each coefficient of performance corresponds to a desired volume flow ratio and a desired secondary evaporating temperature. Based upon measured operating conditions of the linear compressor, the controller determines a highest coefficient of performance from the plurality of coefficients of performance and varies operation of at least one of the first and second pistons to achieve the desired volume flow ratio.

Two-stage linear compressor

A flat-tube evaporator and a refrigeration system including a flat-tube evaporator. The flat-tube evaporator can include an inlet manifold, an outlet manifold separated a distance from the inlet manifold, a distributor tube positioned within the inlet manifold and fluidly connected to the common distributor, and a plurality of flat tubes positioned to fluidly connect the inlet manifold and the outlet manifold. The distributor tube can include a plurality of orifices, each of the plurality of orifices positioned to direct the refrigerant into the inlet manifold in a first direction. Each of the plurality of flat tubes can be positioned to direct the refrigerant from the inlet manifold to the outlet manifold in a second direction, the second direction being substantially opposite the first direction.

Flat-tube evaporator with micro-distributor

A refrigerated merchandiser includes a case defining a product display area and an air passage separate from the product display area. The case includes a rear wall separating in part the product display area from a vertical portion of the air passage. The rear wall includes apertures near a lower portion of the product display area. The apertures communicate between the vertical portion of the air passage and the lower portion of the product display area. The refrigerated merchandiser also includes a fan positioned in the air passage to generate an airflow through the passage and an evaporator positioned in the vertical portion of the air passage adjacent the rear wall and at an oblique angle to allow the airflow to pass through the evaporator, through the apertures, and into the lower portion of the product display area.
