The invention relates to a method of separating and purifying products from a hydrothermal and/or solvothermal conversion process of carbonaceous material adapted to convert a feed stream comprising carbonaceous material at a pressure of at least 100 bar and a temperature of at least 300° C., where the converted feed stream (product mixture) comprises a mixture of COcontaining gas, an oil phase, an aqueous phase comprising water soluble organics and dissolved salts, and inorganic solid phase; where the product mixture is cooled to a temperature in the range 40 to 250° C., and depressurized to a pressure in the range 1 to 30 bar, the method comprising—separating a gas comprising COfrom the product mixture in a degasser such as a flash separator, and—separating a water phase from the at least partly degassed converted feed mixture in a first separation step of the separation, and adding washing agents in the form of an acidifying agent and a diluent to the at least partly degassed and at least partly dewatched product mixture, and separating the mixture with added washing agents into an oil rich phase, a water rich phase and a solid rich phase in a second step of the separation process, and further at least partly recovering the diluent from the oil rich phase.

Product separation and purification method and system

The invention relates to producing upgraded renewable oil. Renewable crude oil is provided whose oxygen content, water content, and total acid number are within predetermined ranges. Respective fractions of the oil have boiling points below 350&#xb0; C. and above 450&#xb0; C. After the oil is pressurized, and hydrogen is added, the mixture is heated and contacted with a heterogeneous catalyst in a first reaction zone with weight based hourly space velocity (WHSV) of 0.1 to 1 h-1. The resultant partially hydrogenated and deoxygenated oil is further heated and contacted with a heterogeneous catalyst in a second reaction zone at WHSV of 0.1 to 1.5 h-1. Low and high boiling point liquid hydrocarbon fractions of the product of the second reaction zone are sent to third and fourth reaction zones, respectively, to be contacted with hydrogen and a heterogeneous catalyst under respective heating conditions and WHSV of 0.1 to 1 h-1.

Process for upgrading oxygen containing renewable oil

The invention relates to a process for producing an upgraded renewable oil from renewable carbonaceous material(-s) comprising providing a low sulphur oxygen containing renewable crude oil having a sulphur content of less than 0.5 wt % and an oxygen content from about 2.0 wt to about 20 wt %, pressurising the low sulphur oxygen containing renewable crude oil to an operational pressure in the range 20 to 200 bar, adding and mixing hydrogen to the pressurized low sulphur oxygen containing crude oil, heating the oil to an operational temperature in the range 180-410&#xb0; C. in one or more steps, contacting said oil with at least one heterogeneous catalyst contained in a first reaction zone, contacting the effluent from said first reaction zone with at least one heterogeneous catalyst contained in a second reaction zone, where in at least one of the heterogeneous catalysts in the first reaction zone and/or the second reaction zone is on a non-sulphided form.

Process for producing low sulphur oxygen containing renewable oil

The invention relates to a method of heating and cooling a feed mixture in a continuous high pressure process for transforming carbonaceous materials into liquid hydrocarbon products in a high pressure processing system adapted for processing a feed mixture at a temperature of at least 340&#xb0; C. and a pressure of at least 150 bar, the high pressure processing system comprising a first and a second heat exchanger having a heat transfer fluid comprising at least 90% water, preferably at least 99% water circulating in the external part of the first and the second heat exchanger, the first heat exchanger comprising a cold internal input side and a hot internal output side, the second heat exchanger comprising a hot internal input side and a cold internal output side, the system further comprising a high pressure water heater and a high pressure water cooler between the first and the second heat exchanger, where the pressurized feed mixture is heated by feeding the feed mixture to the cold internal side of the first heat exchanger, heating and pressurizing the heat transfer fluid to a pressure of at least 240 bar and a temperature of at least 400&#xb0; C. at the input to the hot external side of the first heat exchanger, where the cooled heat transfer fluid from the first heat exchanger having a temperature in the range 150 to 300&#xb0; C. is further cooled to a temperature of 60 to 150&#xb0; C. in the high pressure water cooler prior to entering the cold external side of the second heat exchanger, where the pressurized, heated and converted feed mixture is cooled to a temperature in the range 60 to 200&#xb0; C. by feeding it to the internal side of the second heat exchanger, and where the partly heated heat transfer fluid is further heated in the high pressure water heater before entering the first heat exchanger.

The invention relates to a method of separating and purifying products from a high pressure processing system adapted for processing a feed stream comprising carbonaceous material at a pressure of at least 150 bar and a temperature of at least 300&#xb0; C., where the converted feed stream (product mixture) is cooled to a temperature in the range 50 to 250&#xb0; C., and depressurized to a pressure in the range 1 to 150 bar, the method comprising separating the depressurized product mixture in gas phase, an oil phase (liquid hydrocarbon), and a water phase comprising water soluble organics, dissolved salts and optionally suspended particles in a first phase separator and purifying the oil phase from the first phase separator by mixing it with one or more washing agents, at least one of which comprises water, and separating the oil phase from the one or more washing agents in a further separation step.
