A method of generating presentation time stamps, PTSs, for motion-compensated frame-rate conversion of a sequence of frames. In one aspect, the method comprises for each new frame: determining an average difference between the capture time-stamps of recent consecutive new frames; and generating the PTS based on the capture time-stamp of a previous new frame and the average difference. In another aspect, the method comprises detecting a first cadence and a second different cadence in the sequence of frames; and generating a PTS for each new frame defined by the first cadence, such that in each case the difference between the PTSs of consecutive new frames is intermediate between the true interval between those frames according to the first cadence and the true interval between them according to the second cadence.

A system, apparatus, and method are provided for a video detector that computes a measure of how much a given video content resembles one of a de-interlaced video content or a progressive video content. More particularly, the present invention determines the position of original and interpolated lines and the scaling factor of an input content whenever that content was scaled after de-interlacing.

The invention is implemented with little extra effort and cost in known LCD displays.

Spectrum sequential display having reduced cross talk

A method is described which converts a three primary color input signal (Cx, Cy, Cz) into N drive signals (P, . . . , PN) to drive N&#x3e;3 primary colors of a multi-primary color display (). The method determines () a valid range (VS) wherein the N drive signals (P, . . . , PN) have valid values by performing the steps of (i) defining 3 functions representing 3 of the drive signals (P, P, P) as a function of the remaining N&#x2212;3 drive signal(s) (P, . . . , PN), and (ii) calculating () a common range in a space formed by the N&#x2212;3 drive signal(s) (P, . . . , PN) wherein each one of the 3 functions has valid values. The method selects () a point from the common range to determine the N drive signals (P, . . . , PN).

Method of converting signals for multi-primary color display

A method of enhancing details in an input image. The input image comprises input pixels, which have input pixel values (IPV) limited to a range (RA). The method comprises average filtering () the input pixel values (IPV) to obtain average brightness values (LV). A luminance mask is applied () to the average brightness values (LV) to obtain masked values (MV) which are different for average brightness values (LV) in a sub-range (SR) of the range (RA) than for pixels outside the sub-range (SR). The input pixel values (IPV) are detail filtered () to obtain detail values (HV) indicative for an amount of detail. A non-linear function (NLF) is applied () on the input pixel values (IPV) to obtain for each input pixel value (IPV) a corresponding output pixel value (OPV). A gain of the non-linear function (NLF) is dependent on both the masked value (MV) and detail value (HV) which both are determined for the particular input pixel. The gain is higher for input pixels with input pixel values (IPV) outside the sub-range (SR) than for input pixels with input pixel values (IPV) inside the sub-range (SR). And the gain is higher for input pixels for which the detail value (HV) indicates more high frequency content in the image portion around the particular input pixel than for input pixels for which the detail value (HV) indicates less high frequency content.

Image detail enhancement

An image conversion unit () for converting an input image () into an output image () is disclosed. The image conversion unit () comprises: a filter () for selecting a group of connected input pixels from the input image (), the group of connected input pixels having a size which is relatively small relative to the size of the input image (), the input pixels of the group of connected input pixels having high luminance values relative to the range of input luminance values; and a pixel processor () for assigning luminance values to output pixels of the output image () on basis of the respective luminance values of the input pixels of the input image (), whereby the luminance values of the output pixels corresponding to the group of connected input pixels are higher than the respective luminance values of the connected input pixels.
