Epoxy resin compositions comprising polyepoxides having at least two 1,2-epoxide groups, which can be obtained by reaction of diepoxides or polyepoxides or mixtures thereof with monoepoxides, and one or more amines sterically hindered amines, such as disecondary polyoxyalkylenediamines, and/or diprimary diamines, if desired with the addition of further 1,2-epoxide compounds and also hardeners, and use thereof as a coating for crack bridging, as an adhesive and in powder surface coatings.

Amine-modified epoxy resin composition

Epoxy resin compositions containing polyepoxides having at least two 1,2-epoxide groups are disclosed. The polyepoxides can be obtained by reacting (i) di- or polyepoxides or mixtures thereof with monoepoxides, (ii) one or more amines chosen from sterically hindered amines, disecondary diamines and diprimary diamines to form an epoxide-amine adduct, and (iii) subsequently reacting the epoxide-amine adduct with polyfunctional isocyanates. The composition also contains curing agents for the polyepoxides and can optionally contain additional 1,2-epoxide compounds and additives. The compositions are useful as coatings for bridging cracks, as adhesives and as constituents of paints.

An emulsifier composition for water-dilutable epoxy resins comprise condensation products of an aliphatic polyol component having a weight-average molar mass (M.sub.w) of from 200 to 20,000 g/mol, where a mass fraction of at least 5%, has a weight-average molar mass (M.sub.w) of at least 4000 g/mol, and an epoxide component having of at least one epoxide compound having at least two epoxide groups per molecule and an epoxide group content of from 500 to 10,000 mmol/kg, the ratio of the number of hydroxyl groups to that of the epoxide groups (OH):(EP) being from 1:3.51 to 1:10. When the emulsifier is used for the preparation of aqueous epoxy resin systems, the end of the pot life is indicated by a sharp rise in viscosity.

Aqueous, low-solvent coating compositions comprising a base resin dispersion comprising of an epoxy resin, prepared by condensation of one or more epoxide compounds having at least two epoxide groups per molecule and an aromatic polyol; a dispersant comprising a condensation product of an aliphatic polyol having a weight-average molar mass (M.sub.w) of from 200 to 20,000 g/mol and an epoxide compound having at least two epoxide groups per molecule, and low molar mass, liquid, epoxy-functional compounds as diluents, and also water; an aqueous curing agent for the modified epoxy resin (I), which is suitable for curing at room temperature or at elevated temperatures (forced drying), components (I) and (II) being employed in mass fractions such that the ratio of the number of reactive epoxide groups in (I) to the number of amine hydrogen atoms in (II) is between 1:0.75 and 1:2. The coating compositions exhibit an extended pot life. They can be used to produce coatings and in water-soluble adhesives.

A curing component (A) containing amino groups available for reaction with epoxy resins (B), wherein the curing component (A) is a condensation product of di- or polyhydroxyaromatics (A1) with polyamines (A2) is disclosed. The curing component (A) is useful in preparing curing mixtures (C) which include the curing component (A) and at least one epoxy resin (B), whereby the curing mixtures are useful in the production of shaped articles and as coatings.

Aqueous low-solvent coating compositions comprising a modified epoxy resin dispersion comprising an epoxy resin which is prepared by condensation of one or more epoxide compounds having at least two epoxide groups per molecule with an aromatic polyol; a dispersant comprising a condensation product of an aliphatic polyol and an epoxide compound having at least two epoxide groups per molecule; a diluent consisting of ethylenically unsaturated otherwise inert or, if desired, functional monomers capable of free-radical polymerization or copolymerization, and water, and also an aqueous curing agent for the modified epoxy resin (I), which is suitable for curing at room temperature or at elevated temperatures (forced drying), components (I) and (II) being employed in proportions by mass such that the ratio of the number of epoxide groups which are capable of reaction to the number of amine hydrogen atoms is between 1:0.75 and 1:2. The coating compositions can be employed to produce matt coatings and in adhesives.

Curing agents for aqueous epoxy resin dispersions obtained by reaction of an adduct (A) of at least one polyepoxide (A.sub.1) and at least one polyalkylene polyether polyol (A.sub.2), it being possible for the adduct (A) to be modified with a secondary amine (A.sub.3) if appropriate, with I. a reaction product of an amine (B) and an epoxide (C) or II. an amine (B) and subsequent reaction with an epoxide (C), the amount of amine (B) being chosen such that the H atoms on the nitrogen are present in a 2- to 10-fold excess, based on the epoxide groups in (A).

Curing components containing amino groups for curing epoxy resins are obtained by the reaction of alkylated polyhydroxy aromatics (A) with polyamines (B) and aldehydes (C) by the mechanism of the Mannich reaction. The preparation of curable mixtures and varnish formulations is also disclosed. The curing components and curable mixtures can also be employed at a low temperature.
