Aspects of the disclosure provide a chip package that includes a first die and a second die. The first die has a processing circuit and a first interface circuit. The second die is disposed in a proximity to the first die and coupled to the first die. The second die includes internal functional circuits, two or more second interface circuits with an identical configuration, and a switch circuit. A specific second interface circuit is electrically connected to the first interface circuit via wires. The switch circuit is configured to select the specific second interface circuit from the two or more second interface circuits, and couple the specific second interface circuit to the internal functional circuits on the second die.

Modular chip with redundant interfaces

An access system includes line cards. The line cards include first and second line cards. The first line card receives a first packet and includes a first interface control module that generates a first request signal to transfer the first packet. The first request signal includes an identifier of a second interface control module in the second line card. Crossbar modules are separate from the line cards and include first and second crossbar modules. The first crossbar module includes a first scheduler module. The second crossbar module transfers packets between a pair of the line cards. The packets include the first packet. The first scheduler module is separate from the line cards and, based on the first request signal, schedules the transfer of the packets from the first interface control module, through the second crossbar module, and to the second interface control module.

Method and apparatus for transferring packets between interface control modules of line cards

Aspects of the disclosure provide a codec that transforms input data into a codeword. The codeword includes a header portion and a payload portion. The codec modifies the payload portion of the codeword based on a type control block that is included in the payload portion of the codeword. Specifically, the codec modifies a control block in the payload portion to create a reference block, which provisions for data blocks to be inserted in the codeword subsequent to the reference block. Thus, by modifying the payload portion of the codeword, the codec eliminates any wasted data bytes thereby achieving optimal usage of the payload bandwidth.

64B/66B codec for ethernet applications

A network switching system includes transceiver devices respectively provided for a plurality of input line cards. The switching system also includes transceiver devices respective provided for a plurality of output line cards. The switching system further includes a switch device communicatively coupled to each of the plurality of input line cards and the plurality of output line cards. The switch device includes a crosspoint matrix for communicatively connecting one of the input line cards to one of the output line cards. The switch device is capable of operating in either a crosspoint mode for routing cells or packets from one of the input line cards to one of the output line cards, or a scheduler mode for controlling flow of cells and/or packets through at least one other switch device.

Network interconnect crosspoint switching architecture and method

A system and method for transmitting digital data over a transmission medium includes receiving digital values representing a plurality of N-bit characters to be output over the transmission medium, each N-bit character being either a data character or a control character. A determination is made as to which of the plurality of N-bit characters are control characters. The digital values represented by the plurality of N-bit characters are encoded to provide an encoded codeword, the encoded codeword being {M&#xd7;(N&#x2212;1)+P} bits having M fields of N&#x2212;1 bits, each of the M fields corresponding to one of the N-bit characters being encoded. The encoding further includes: designating, for each data character, the respective field of the M fields as a data field, designating, for each control character, the respective field of the M fields as a control field, and ordering the M fields to position any control fields at predetermined positions with respect to each other in the encoded codeword and to position any data fields at other remaining positions within the encoded codeword. The encoded codeword is then transmitted over the transmission medium. A system and method that receives such an encoded codeword over a transmission medium is also contemplated.
