Multicolor prints should be economically producible in a printing machine suited for automation. For this purpose a printing machine is configured which operates according to the collect-run principle. The multicolor prints are collected on a rubber cylinder ( on a printing cylinder ( ). The printing machine is capable of processing two printing colors (inks) in one printing unit. For the execution of the collecting printing the sheets are fed in a cycle offset to the rotation of the collecting cylinder. There are yielded very compact and simply structured printing machine configurations.

Multicolor sheet-fed printing press

A printing machine which allows for the economic production of multi-color prints and allows for automation of the printing process is provided. The printing machine according to the collect-run principle in which the multicolor prints are collected on a rubber cylinder. In a single printing unit, the printing machine can also process two different printing inks. To execute the collect-run printing operation, the sheets are fed in a cycle offset to the collection of the images on the rubber cylinder. This enables very compact and simply structured printing machine configurations.

To facilitate the attachment and adjustment of a printing plate on the outer surface of the plate cylinder of a printing machine, a layer of friction-reducing material is applied to the underside of the printing plate or the outer surface of the plate cylinder or both. The friction-reducing, sliding material may be a thermoset material, a thermoplastic material or an inorganic dry lubricant. The sliding material may be burnt into the supporting surface or bonded thereto by an adhesion promoting substrate layer.

A method and device for washing the printing cylinder of a printing machine, especially an offset rotary printing machine, in which a washing device with a washing roller with a covering capable of absorbing liquid is premoistened prior to performing the first washing operation after a long standstill period of the printing machine. As a result, the efficacy of the first washing operation after an interruption to operation of the printing machine is improved, the wear on the covering of the washing roller is reduced, and damage to the printing cylinder from a dry covering of the washing roller is avoided.

An apparatus for clamping a flexible printing plate onto a plate cylinder including an adjustable front clamping strip for releasably engaging a leading end of the printing plate and a plurality of axially spaced pins which engage respective axially spaced holes in the rear of the printing plate. The printing plate is held on the circumference of the printing cylinder with relative little force so that any inaccuracies can be easily corrected through adjustment of the front clamping strip.

A device for monitoring the side lay marks and excess draw of a sheet fed rotary press that further ensures that sheets are at a sufficient distance from the side lay mark prior to transverse conveyance. A lateral sensor is positioned at a predetermined distance from the side lay mark so that when front sensors determine the presence of a sheet at front lay marks, the lateral sensor is evaluated. The sheet will only be conveyed transversely toward the side lay if the lateral sensor has not detected a sheet but the front sensors have, thus ensuring that the side edge of the sheet is at a sufficient distance from the side lay mark. A mechanism for selectively engaging the doctor blade in a washer for the blanket cylinder of a printing press. The mechanism permits independent control of doctor blade engagement and, through the use of a plurality of adjustably mounted fluid pressure actuators spaced along the length of the doctor blade, facilitates accurate blade alignment, thus preventing non-uniform wear of the doctor blade and the washer roller.

A gripper finger for a gripper spindle in a sheet-fed printing press includes first and second components. The first component has a gripper finger extension which contacts a gripper finger support at a transfer point. The first and second components cooperate to form an enclosure angle for enclosing the gripper spindle, with the first component contributing a maximum of 180 degrees to the enclosure angle and the second component supplementing the enclosure angle. The second component is fastened to the gripper spindle. A first compression spring is disposed between the ends of the first and second for exerting an adjustable, first spring force approximately in a direction of the transfer point. An adjustment screw is threadably engaged with one of the components and has a tip which lies against the supporting plane of the other component for exerting a screw force approximately in a direction of the transfer point. The first spring force and the screw force combine to form a resultant force in the direction of a line connecting the center point of the gripper spindle and the transfer point. A second compression spring clamped between the first component and the gripper spindle urges the first component against the gripper finger with a force greater than the first spring force and in a direction which essentially coincides with the direction of the resultant force.
