The disclosed invention relates to a method and system to transmit data packets through a switched network system that is composed of a plurality of routing entities. The method determines whether or not the output port assigned to the data packet and the associated input port are local to the routing entity by referencing an index pointer to a routing table.

System and method for transmitting data packets in an infiniband network

A network interface device includes receive logic, which is coupled to receive from a network a sequence of data packets, each packet including respective header data. A protocol processor is coupled to read and process the header data so as to identify a group of the received packets that contain respective fragments of a data frame, the fragments having a fragment order within the data frame. Host interface logic is coupled to a host memory accessible by a host processor, and is controlled by the protocol processor so as to allocate space for the data frame in the host memory, and to reassemble the fragments of the data frame in the fragment order in the space allocated in the host memory.

Wire speed reassembly of data frames

A network interface device includes host interface logic, arranged to receive from a host processor a frame of outgoing data that includes outgoing header information and outgoing payload data, and to separate the header information from the payload data. A transmit protocol processor is coupled to read and process the outgoing header information from the outgoing header memory so as to generate at least one outgoing packet header in accordance with a predetermined network protocol. Transmit logic is coupled to receive and associate the at least one outgoing packet header with the outgoing payload data from the outgoing data memory, so as to generate at least one outgoing data packet for transmission over a network in accordance with the protocol.

Network adapter with embedded deep packet processing

An arbiter which arbitrates between a plurality of clients generating requests for access to a resource in a computing environment, including a memory which includes for each of the plurality of clients a request register, which is adapted to record the respective client's access requests, and a next-client pointer, which is adapted to record an identification of another one of the clients making a subsequent request to access the resource, so as to form a linked list of the requests. The arbiter further includes logic circuitry which is adapted to decide, responsive to the linked list, which of the plurality of clients is given access to the resource.
