A method of channel estimation in a communication system includes the steps of: receiving at least one input signal associated with at least one data stream, the input signal having reference symbols and data symbols; processing the at least one input signal in a slot-wise manner; performing a channel estimation by taking at least one reference symbol per input signal into account, which is used to equalize the respective input signal and to assign the symbols to the at least one data stream, thereby generating a processed signal for each independent data stream, and processing further the processed signal while performing an additional channel estimation for each independent data stream, wherein the reference symbols and the data symbols are taken into account for the additional channel estimation. Further, a signal processing system is described.

A test apparatus for testing a base station of a wireless communication system, comprises a downlink port, which receives a downlink signal from the base station, an uplink port, which emits an uplink signal to the base station, a signal processing unit, which is coupled to the downlink port and analyzes the downlink signal for timing information and generates a timing synchronization signal based on the downlink signal, and a signal generator, which is coupled to the signal processing unit and the uplink port and generates a predetermined signal frame and emits the generated predetermined signal frame based on the synchronization signal via the uplink port to the base station.

The device is used for decoding convolution-encoded reception symbols. In this context, transmission data are modulated with a modulation scheme to form symbols, which are encoded with a transmission filter to form convolution-encoded transmission symbols. A convolution-encoded transmission symbol contains components of several symbols arranged in time succession. These transmission symbols are transmitted via a transmission channel and received as reception symbols. The Viterbi decoder decodes the reception symbols by use of a modified Viterbi algorithm. Before running through the Viterbi decoder, the reception symbols are processed by a state-reduction device, which determines additional items of information relating to possible consequential states of the decoding independently of the decoding through the Viterbi decoder in every state of the decoding. The state-reduction device uses the additional items of information to restrict the decoding through the Viterbi decoder to given consequential states.

A system and method for interference cancellation of received data via a communication channel in a cellular communication system having corresponding channel impulse response coefficients. Linear filtering of the received data is performed and thereafter a non-linear detection is executed to get detected data by non-linear signal processing. Filter coefficients are determined for linear pre-filtering of the received data to suppress non-Gaussian interference. The pre-filtered data is further processed by non-linear detection to get detected data.
