The invention relates to a rechargeable electrochemical battery cell. Said cell comprises a negative electrode (), an electrolyte (), and a positive electrode, the negative electrode () having a an electronically conductive substrate (), onto which an active mass () is electrolytically deposited during the charging of the cell. The aim of the invention is to significantly improve the operational safety of said cell. To achieve this, the cell in contact with the substrate ()of the negative electrode () has a porous structure ()formed by solid particles (), which is configured and positioned in such a way that the active mass (), which is deposited during the charging of the cell, penetrates from the surface of the substrate () into the pores () of the latter and is deposited again therein.
