Embodiments of multilayer films and laminate structures for flexible packaging comprise a multilayer polyolefin film comprising at least 3 layers. The multilayer polyolefin film comprises a first surface layer comprising: a first composition comprising at least one ethylene based polymer, wherein the first composition comprises a Molecular Weighted Comonomer Distribution Index (MWCDI) value greater than 0.9, and a melt index ratio (I/I) that meets the following equation: I/I&#x2265;7.0&#x2212;1.2&#xd7;log (I). The first surface layer also comprises a second composition comprising an ethylene based polymer having a density from 0.890 to 0.925 g/cc and a melt index (I) from 0.2 to 2.0 g/10 min. The multilayer polyolefin film also comprises a first intermediate layer comprising the first composition.

Multilayer polyethylene laminates and films for use in flexible packaging materials

The present invention provides coated films and packages formed from such films. In one aspect, a coated film comprises (a) a multilayer polymeric film having opposing facial surfaces, wherein a first facial surface has a root mean square surface roughness of at least 80 nm when measured using image analysis with an atomic force microscope and wherein a second facial surface has a root mean square surface roughness of less than 80 nm when measured using image analysis with an atomic force microscope; and (b) a coating on at least a portion of the first facial surface, wherein the coating comprises polyurethane, wherein the film comprises at least one of polyethylene, polypropylene, polyethylene terephthalate, or polyamide, and wherein the coated film has a Zebedee clarity of at least 2% when measured according to ASTM D1746/15 in the coated portion of the first facial surface.

Coated films and articles formed from same

A multilayer blown film having an inner layer, a first outer layer, and a second outer layer, wherein the inner layer comprises an ethylene-based polymer having a MWCDI value greater than 0.9, and a melt index ratio (I10/I2) that meets the following equation: I10/I2&#x2265;7.0&#x2212;1.2&#xd7;log (I2); and the first outer layer and the second outer layer independently comprise a polyethylene composition which comprises the reaction product of ethylene and, optionally, one or more alpha olefin comonomers, wherein the polyethylene composition is characterized by the following properties: (a) a melt index, I, of from 0.1 to 2.0 g/10 min; (b) a density of from 0.910 to 0.930 g/cc; (c) a melt flow ratio, I/I, of from 6.0 to 7.6; and (d) a molecular weight distribution, (Mw/Mn) of from 2.5 to 4.0.

Blown films with improved properties

The present invention provides coated films and packages formed from such films. In one aspect, a coated film comprises (a) a film comprising (i) a first layer as described herein; (ii) a second layer as described herein; and (iii) at least one inner layer between the first layer and the second layer as described herein; and (b) a coating on an outer surface of the second layer of the film comprising polyurethane.

A multilayer film comprising a first layer comprising from greater than 0 to 100 percent by weight of an ethylene/&#x3b1;-olefin interpolymer composition (LLDPE), based on the total weight of the film composition; and a second layer comprising at least 5 percent by weight of the second layer, of an anhydride and/or carboxylic acid functionalized ethylene/alpha-olefin interpolymer having a density in the range of from 0.855 to 0.900 g/cm; and having a melt index (190&#xb0; C./2.16 kg) of greater than 200 g/10 min; and from 60 to 95 percent, by weight of the second layer, of EVOH is provided.

Multi-layer films and articles made therefrom

The present invention provides methods of preparing peelable seal layers, methods of preparing multilayer films, peelable seal layers made therefrom, and multilayer films made therefrom. In one aspect, a method of preparing a peelable seal layer comprises (a) providing a first blend comprising (i) from 5 to 98 percent by weight of a reactor grade propylene based plastomer or elastomer having a molecular weight distribution of less than 3.5 and a density of less than 0.89 g/cc and (ii) from 2 to 95 percent by weight of a second polymer selected from the group consisting of polyethylene, polybutylene, and styrenic polymer and mixtures thereof; (b) providing at least one linear low density polyethylene; (c) blending the first blend with the at least one linear low density polyethylene to obtain a second blend; and (d) extruding the second blend to form a peelable seal layer, wherein the peelable seal layer has a heat seal initiation temperature less than 120&#xb0; C. when sealed at a bar pressure of 40 psi with a dwell time of 0.5 seconds.

Methods of preparing a peelable seal layer

A package, e.g., a pouch, comprising: (A) An exterior surface comprising oriented-polypropylene (OPP), and (B) An interior surface comprising a blend, in weight percent based on the weight of the blend, of: (1) From 30 to 80 wt % of a propylene-based plastomer or elastomer (PBPE), and (2) From 20 to 70 wt % of low density polyethylene (LDPE); the package further comprising (C) A peelable end seal formed by joining in a heat seal two sections of the interior surface, the heat seal having a seal strength of 1 to 4 pounds per inch (lb/in) (4.48 to 17.9 Newton (N)/25.4 millimeter (mm)), and (D) A lap seal formed by joining in a heat seal a section of the interior surface with a section of the exterior surface, the heat seal having a seal strength of greater than or equal to (&#x2265;) 15 lb/in (67.2 N/25.4 mm).

Package with peelable and non-peelable heat seals

The present disclosure is directed to compositions and film structures suitable for heat seal production. The heat sealable flexible film structure includes: a layer (A) comprising a propylene-based plastomer or elastomer ('PBPE') and a low density polyethylene; a layer (B), adjacent to layer (A), comprising at least 50 percent by weight of the layer (B) of an ethylene-based polymer; and an outermost layer (C) comprising a material having a melting point greater than 140&#xb0; C. Weight percents are based on the total weight of the respective layer. The heat sealable flexible film structure is used to make a flexible container () having one or more heat seals (). The heat seal () can be a frangible heat seal, a hard heat seal, or a combination thereof.

Flexible film composition for heat seals and container with same

A polymeric composition suitable for blown film applications comprising a) 80 to 99.5 percent by weight of a continuous polymeric phase comprising a polyolefin, and b) 0.5 to 20 percent by weight of polymeric particles having i) an average particle diameter of 0.85 to 20 &#x3bc;m; ii) a refractive index from 1.46 to 1.61; iii) an average particle hardness from 1.2367E+10 N/mto 8.4617E+10 N/m; and iv) at least 60% polymerized acrylic monomer units, is disclosed. The polymeric composition can be used to form blown film characterized by having a thickness in the range of from 5 to 350 &#x3bc;m, a modulus of elasticity in the range of from 5 to 133 MPa, a melt strength in the range of from 4 to 40 cN, an elongation at break in the range of from 100 to 1000%, a 45 degree gloss in the range of from 7 to 136 and a softness measured by human panel handfeel-ranking methodology, measured by ISO 8587 Sensory analysis that is higher than a film which does not contain the polymeric composition.

Enhanced tactile responsive and optically translucent film for packaging

A film composition comprising from 5 to 75 percent by weight of an ethylene/&#x3b1;-olefin interpolymer composition (LLDPE), and from 25 to 95 percent by weight of a propylene/&#x3b1;-olefin interpolymer composition, and films made from the film composition, wherein the films exhibited synergistic physical properties, namely holding force and elastic recovery, are provided.
