Engineered variant polypeptides having lipase enzyme activity, compositions comprising the enzymes, and methods of making and using the enzymes. The genetically engineered lipase enzymes are useful in many different applications such as laundry detergents, dish washing detergents, and cleaning products for homes, industry, vehicle care, baking, animal feed, pulp and paper processing, starch processing, biodiesel and ethanol production.

A washing- and cleaning-active polymer film is disclosed. The washing- and cleaning-active polymer film includes a polymer composition obtainable by a free-radical polymerization of a monomer composition. The monomer composition includes at least one &#x3b1;,&#x3b2;-ethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acid or acid salt. The monomer composition is subjected to a free-radical polymerization in the presence of at least one polyether component. A process for producing the washing- and cleaning-active polymer film is further disclosed. A use of the polymer film and a covering or coating for a detergent or cleaner portion including the polymer film is disclosed.

Branched polyesters with sulfonate groups obtainable by the reaction of the components A, B, optionally C and optionally D to give branched polyesters, where the component A is selected from the group of &#x3b1;,&#x3b2;-olefinically unsaturated dicarboxylic acids, and the component B is selected from the group of tri- or higher-functional alcohols, the optional component C is selected from the group of difunctional alcohols or of difunctional carboxylic acids without &#x3b1;,&#x3b2;-olefinically unsaturated bonds, the optional component D is selected from fatty acids or fatty alcohols, and the subsequent reaction of the resulting branched polyesters with hydrogen sulfite, where the molar amount of hydrogen sulfite is at most 95 mol %, based on the amount of &#x3b1;,&#x3b2;-olefinically unsaturated dicarboxylic acid.

A water-soluble or water-dispersible copolymer comprises copolymerized units a) of at least one ethylenically unsaturated monomer with a saccharide side group and b) of at least one hydrophilic ethylenically unsaturated monomer different from (meth)acrylamide, where the weight fraction of the ethylenically unsaturated monomers with a saccharide side group is 5 to 95% by weight. The copolymers exhibit high affinity to inorganic surfaces or hydrophilic fibers, such as cotton. They serve as soil release and/or graying-inhibiting polymers in textile detergents or minimize the risk of microbial colonization of materials coated therewith.
