Disclosed is an implantable one-piece heart prosthesis having a driving artificial ventricle and a driven artificial ventricle. A main actuator is configured to transmit to the driving artificial ventricle diastolic and systolic flow rates having desired respective values for the driving artificial ventricle. An auxiliary actuator is configured to transmit to the driven artificial ventricle correction systolic and diastolic flow rates that correct the systolic and diastolic flow rates transmitted by the main actuator to the driven artificial ventricle.

A ball and socket joint for use in mechanical linkages, especially for ball-ended connecting rods in a multi-cylinder hydraulic pump comprises a ball head forcibly inserted into a socket which extends over more than a hemisphere and which is formed as a cylindrical seating member. Radial slits around the mouth of the socket allow the necessary distortion and then the mouth of the socket is squeezed and held by a hoop or ring or counter-plates, and the seating member is inserted in a cylindrical recess in a further component.

Ball and socket joint and method of forming it

A multicylinder hydraulic machine of the split-shaft kind comprises a rotatable shaft and a drive plate fixed on the shaft and linked to piston and rod units received in the cylinders of the drum. Liquid flow is through orifices in a distribution plate non-rotatably positioned around the shaft, through ducts in the drive plate and through the piston and rod units which are hollow. The shaft is rotatably mounted and axially located by conical bearings. The distribution plate is mounted in an axially floating manner and a hydraulic abutment is developed between the distribution plate and the drive plate during operation of the machine so as to reduce the force on the shaft bearings.

A method for measuring the surface roughness of a workpiece, comprising filling two capacitors with a compressed gas at specific pressures; applying to the rough surface of the workpiece to be studied the open end of a bell-form sensor connected to a second one of the capacitors; evacuating simultaneously and individually to atmosphere the two capacitors, the first through a calibrated throttle, the second through the leak existing between the edge of said sensor bell and the rough surface of the workpiece; measuring, during evacuation, the difference between the pressures in the two capacitors; and deducing from this pressure differential, by standardization with sample pieces of known roughness, the roughness of the piece studied.
