An intervertebral implant includes a three-dimensional body and a securing plate. The three-dimensional body includes a front surface and a rear surface. The three-dimensional body further includes a plurality of boreholes for accommodating fixation elements. The intervertebral implant also includes a front plate disposed at the front surface of the three-dimensional body and has a plurality of boreholes. A securing plate can be fastened to the front plate.

Intervertebral implant

The intervertebral implant is in the form of a three-dimensional structure () comprising (a) a top side () and an underside () which are designed to rest against the end plates of two adjacent vertebras, (b) a left side face () and a right side face (), (c) a front face () and a rear face (), (d) a horizontal center plane situated between the top side () and the underside (), (e) a vertical center plane () situated between the left side face () and the right side face () and (f) a plurality of boreholes () passing through the implant structure () that are designed to receive longitudinal affixation elements (), the axes () of said elements intersecting the horizontal center plane (). At least one of the boreholes () is designed in a manner that the affixation element () received in it can be rigidly connected to the intervertebral implant. Said connection is implemented using a thread or by matching conical surfaces.

A method of aligning implant components includes placing a first implant component in bone, followed by: coupling a first intermediate member to the first implant component; coupling a first alignment member to the first intermediate member; rotating the members as a unit to place the first intermediate member in an alignment position; removing the first alignment member from the first intermediate member; coupling a second alignment member to a second intermediate member; coupling the second intermediate member to the first intermediate member and rotating the second alignment member and the second intermediate member as a unit relative to the first intermediate member to provide a desired orientation of the second intermediate member. An alignment system for aligning first and second members includes a first alignment member having an offset channel dimensioned to receive the first member, and a second alignment member having a channel dimensioned to receive the second member.

The intervertebral three-dimensional structure comprises a top side, an underside, a front face, a rear face, and a plurality of boreholes designed to receive affixation elements.

A device of performing osteosynthesis includes an osteosynthesis element, e.g., a bone plate, having an upper face, a lower face and an opening with a central axis linking the upper and lower faces. The opening receives a multi-axial pivotable insert for a longitudinal bone fixing element, such as a bone screw. The insert has a central passage with a longitudinal axis for housing the bone fixing element. The insert may be configured as a helical spring with an external sheath surface and an internal sheath surface that defines the central passage. When placed in the through hole, the insert is rotationally fixed relative to its longitudinal axis, but remains pivotally adjustable within the through hole relative to the osteosynthesis element.

A bone plate system includes (a) Bone Plate having a bottom surface for contacting bone, an upper surface and at least one through hole extending from the bottom surface to the upper surface, the through hole having a central axis and a cross-section that extends orthogonally to the central axis and is one of at least partially polygonal, at least partially prismatic, and at least partially elliptical; (b) Bushing within the through hole, Bushing including a central bore designed to receive a bone fixation element, a cross-section of Bushing orthogonal to the longitudinal axis of Bushing is shaped substantially the same as the cross-section of the through hole so that Bushing is secured against rotation about its longitudinal axis; and (c) at least one Bone Fixation Element having a portion for anchoring within bone, Bone Fixation Element configured and dimensioned for insertion into the central bore of Bushing.

A device for osteosynthesis that includes a fixation element having at least one through hole designed to receive a pivotable bushing for a bone screw. The through hole having a central axis and a cross-section extending orthogonally to the central axis defined by two incomplete semicircles connected to each other by at least two non-circular cut outs forming grooves in the fixation element. The device also includes at least one bushing insertable in the through hole. The bushing has top and bottom surfaces, a longitudinal axis, a central bore designed to receive a bone screw, and a peripheral outside face having at least two outwardly extending protrusions defining an axis of rotation of the bushing extending through the protrusions. A cross section of the bushing orthogonal to the longitudinal axis is shaped such that the bushing is pivotable about the axis of rotation defined by the protrusions.

The device for performing osteosynthesis includes a fixation element, such as a bone plate having a bottom surface designed to bear against the bone, a top surface, and at least one through hole extending from the bottom surface to the top surface, the though hole having a central axis and configured and dimensioned to receive a multiaxially pivotal insert or bushing for a bone screw. A bushing insertable into the through hole, includes a central bore designed to receive a bone screw, the central bore having a longitudinal axis, and a peripheral outer surface designed to be in contact with the through hole. The bushing is configured and dimensioned to be radially compressible and radially expansible, and the cross section of the through hole, which is orthogonal to the central axis, is non-circular. The cross section of the bushing that is orthogonal to the longitudinal axis has a shape that corresponds substantially to the cross section of the through hole of the bone plate. When placed in the through hole, the bushing is rotationally fixed relative to its longitudinal axis, but remains pivotally adjustable within the through hole relative to the bone plate.
