The subject of the invention is a disc brake and support system for such a brake. The disc brake comprises a torque-supporting member (10), with which are associated actuation mechanism (26, 28) capable of urging at least one friction element (22, 24) against a rotating disc (18), the torque-supporting member being equipped with bores (32, 34) allowing it to slide respectively on a first column (12) located at the torque input and on a second column (14) located at the torque output in a direction substantially perpendicular to the plane of the rotating disc, these columns being fixed to a stationary support (16). According to the invention, the guide lengths of the torque-supporting member (10) on the first column (12) and on the second column (14), L and l respectively, are different. Also according to the invention, the play left between the first column (12) and the first bore (32) on the one hand and between the second column (14) and the second bore (34) on the other hand, J.sub.E and J.sub.S respectively, can be different.

Disc brake and support system for such a brake

The invention relates to a disc brake with automatic adjustment, of the type incorporating a calliper (10), a brake actuator (12) which is adapted to act directly upon a first friction component (14) and, by reaction through the calliper (10) upon a second friction component (16). The brake actuator (12) incorporates a mechanical control (32) acting upon a hydraulic control piston (20) through an automatic adjustment device, the latter being formed by a screw and nut device (46, 60) with reversible pitch which is actuatable by the hydraulic piston (20) beyond a predetermined travel of the latter which is defined by a clearance between an annular component (82) and a thrust bearing (92) which is adapted to act upon the screw and nut device (46, 60), the clearance being capable of varying as a function of the pressure applied to the control piston (20). According to the invention, the annular component (82) is movable axially relative to the control piston (20) by means of a monitoring piston (64) when a predetermined control pressure is reached.

A spring (40) comprises a folded metal leaf including a mounting portion (42) which is joined elastically by its sides, which are circumferentially spaced apart (46, 48), to two rigid actuating portions (58, 60), a first rigid portion (58) lying parallel to the axis of the disc and being capable of pushing elastically by its two free ends the support plates (26, 28) in a direction which is essentially circumferential (T), a second (60) of the rigid portions (58, 60) also lying parallel to the axis of the disc and being capable of pushing elastically, by its two free ends, the support plates (26, 28) essentially radially (R) toward the axis of the disc.

The subject of the invention is a disk brake with automatic adjustment of the type incorporating a sliding calliper (10), a brake actuator (12) acting directly upon a first friction component (14) and, by reaction through the calliper (10), upon a second friction component (16), the brake actuator (12) incorporating a mechanical control (32) acting upon a hydraulic control piston (20) through an automatic adjustment device. The automatic adjustment device consists of a screw and nut system (46-60) of reversible pitch which is capable of being actuated by the hydraulic piston (20) beyond a predetermined travel of the latter, the adjustment device incorporating an annular component (76), firmly fixed in rotation to the nut and co-operating with a control piston (64), immobilizing the annular component (76) in rotation when the hydraulic pressure acting upon the hydraulic control piston (20) reaches a predetermined value. According to the invention, the hydraulic piston (20) and the control piston (64) are coaxially mounted one inside the other, and co-operate in sealed reversible sliding thus allowing the hydraulic piston (20) to be dismantled as a unit from the control piston (64), from the annular component (76) and from the nut (60).

The spring (14), consisting of a metal sheet folded in the general shape of a V, incorporates a pair of main wings (15) bearing against an inside surface of the arch (7) of the sliding caliper (4) of the brake, joined by a central axial portion (16) bearing against the pads (2a, 2b), and at least one mounting wing (21), close to an axial end (18) of the spring, separated from the adjacent main wing (15) by a notch (20) and extended into an end portion forming a hook (22) engaged in an opening (25) in the arch (7) which is provided with a recessed shoulder (27) for retaining the hook (22), the axial end (18) of the spring (14), consisting advantageously of a finger folded back (24), bearing against an inside surface (11) of the inner portion (5) of the caliper which encloses a brake actuator (10).

The device incorporates a tubular bearing component (20) having an end portion inserted into the bottom (11) of the piston (1) and a portion projecting into the cavity (9) of the piston, the uni-directional clutch-spring (14) for the tapped sleeve (12) engaged on the threaded rod (8) for the handbrake being mounted on this projecting portion of the bearing component and incorporating an end arm (15) joined to the sleeve (12).

A disc brake comprises a torque-supporting member (10) with which is associated an actuating mechanism (28) to stress at least one friction element (22) against a rotating disc (18), this element (22) comprising a lining-holding plate (38) on which a friction lining is mounted. The plate (38) interacts so as to be anchored and to slide with guide surfaces formed on the torque support (10), and an anti-noise spring (48) interacts with the friction element (22) and with the torque support (10). According to the invention, the lining-holding plate (38) has an assembly aperture (46) for the anit-noise spring (48) and this aperture has a bearing portion and a widened assembly portion which opens into the bearing portion and onto one edge of the lining-holding plate (38). The anti-noise spring (48) interacts with at least one part of the bearing portion so as to stress the friction element (22).

A sliding key (10), interposed between the end (5) of an arm (4) of the fixed support (1) and the adjacent profiled end (60, 70) of the sliding caliper (8), is immobilized axially by a component (15), advantageously elastic, having end portions (16) cooperating in engagement with the axially opposed ends of the key (10) and joined by an intermediate portion (20) of undulating profile defining with the adjacent outside zone of the end (5) of the arm (4) a channel (24) for a wire conductor (25) to pass through, for connection to a pad wear detector, brought to the side of the brake opposite this pad.

The subject of the invention is a disc brake including a movable assembly. The brake includes a movable assembly (10) mounted to slide by two small columns (12, 14) on a fixed support (16). The small columns include a cylindrical sleeve and a screw. A locking element (66) is interposed between the sleeves and the heads (62) of the corresponding screws. The locking element has two forks (70) each engaging in a groove formed in each of the sleeves and also a resilient portion (74) which locks the locking element (66) onto said sleeves by interference with a portion of said sleeves located between said groove and the corresponding end of the sleeve, so as to make the locking element (66) completely secure and prevent rotation of the sleeves when the screws are screwed in. The brake may be utilized for the braking of motor vehicles.

The subject of the invention is a disc brake pad and a brake including such a pad. The disc brake pad (10) comprises two opposite sides (16, 18) including projections (24, 26) in which notches (28, 30) are formed, formed by a first part (32) and a second part (34) forming an acute angle (A) between them. The profile of the opposite sides (16, 18) is such that, for any point (P) of the second part (34), the distance between said point (P) and any part of the opposite side (16, 18), except the region of the notch (28, 30), is greater than a value (R) corresponding to the distance separating the apices of said two notches (28, 30) plus a predetermined value. The required profile of the sides is obtained by means of a portion (44) connecting said second part (34) and the corresponding side (16, 18) of the pad (10). Application to motor vehicle braking.

The brake comprises a caliper (14) mounted for sliding on a fixed support by two axial columns (16 and 18) cooperating with bores (38, 40) formed in the caliper. The bores (38, 40) are provided with notches (42, 44) permitting the introduction of the columns (16, 18) transversely and without dismounting the latter. One of the columns (16) is equipped with a resilient sleeve (51) on which there is formed a projection (52) cooperating resiliently with the corresponding bore (38) of the caliper (14) to ensure functions of automatic recentring of the caliper and of anti-noise spring.

In a disc brake in which a movable member is slidably mounted on a fixed support member by means of at least one column at least one protecting device is associated to each column to prevent various particles such as mud, grease, etc. to be deposited on the sliding surfaces of the column. The protecting device includes a seal of resilient material which cooperates with the outside surface of the column by means of at least one lip, and which carries a rigid scraper element level with the outside surface of the column. The scraper element is mounted outside with respect to the lip of the seal to clean off the particles of solid materials in a first stage, the liquid particles being retained by the lip in a second stage.

A pad in which an extension is formed with four sliding and bracing edges arranged in pairs to slidably cooperate with corresponding grooves provided in the torque taking member of a disc brake is characterized in that the extension forms a T of which each end comprises a first of the edges substantially parallel to the line of application of the tangential force generated during braking, and a second of the edges inclined with respect to a plane perpendicular to the line of application of the tangential force. The angle so defined is such that the forces transmitted to the torque taking member are minimized.

Friction pad and support for a disc brake

The invention relates to a disc brake in which the brake pads are slidably mounted in an anchoring member straddling the disc. The pads co-operate with V-ribs formed in the anchoring member beyond the periphery of the disc. Each rib has an axial surface parallel to the force generated during braking and a surface perpendicular to the resultant of the braking force and of the braking torque. The ribs are slotted to permit the pads to be extracted radially after the pistons have been retracted beyong their idle position.
