Embodiments may take the form of a composite shaped charge. In an example embodiment, a shaped charge includes a casing, an energetic material positioned within the casing, and a liner substantially covering the energetic material. At least one of the casing, the energetic material, and the liner comprises a composite construction. An example embodiment may take the form of a case having a composite construction. An example embodiment may take the form of an energetic material having a composite construction. An example embodiment may take the form of a liner having a composite construction.

Composite shaped charges

A shaped charge includes a casing; a liner located within an opening of the casing; and an explosive located in the region between the casing and the liner, wherein at least one of the liner and the explosive comprises an intermetallic mixture comprising boron and a reactant metal. The reactant metal is one selected from the group consisting of Ti, Mg, Zr, Mo, and a combination thereof. A method for perforating in a well includes positioning a perforating gun in the well, wherein the perforating gun includes a shaped charge that includes: a casing; a liner located within an opening of the casing; and an explosive located in the region between the casing and the liner, wherein at least one of the liner and the explosive includes an intermetallic mixture that contains boron and a reactant metal; and detonating the shaped charge in the well.

A well treatment system of the present invention includes a housing forming a sealed surge chamber, and a surge charge disposed within the sealed surge chamber, wherein the surge charge is adapted upon activation to penetrate the housing and to not penetrate material exterior of the housing. Fluid communication is created between the surge chamber and the wellbore when the housing is penetrated by the surge charge. The penetration permits wellbore fluid to flow quickly into the surge chamber. Fluid flow into the surge chamber may enhance a surge of flow from the formation into the wellbore.

Well treatment system and method

A method and apparatus to protect explosive components used in various tools, such as tools for use in wellbores, includes a component with an adsorptive material. Example tools include perforating gun strings that include shaped charges, detonating cords, and booster explosives. Other tools may include surface tools containing explosive components. In these tools, a build up of corrosive gases or liquids may occur, which may cause damage to the explosive components. As a result, the structural integrity or reliability and thermal stability may be weakened or reduced. To reduce the amount of build up of corrosive gases or liquids, an adsorptive material is placed inside tools in the proximity of explosive components.
