There are provided firefighter protective pants including an inner liner, an outer shell and two pant legs. The outer shell is made of a flame-resistant material and extends over at least a portion of the inner liner. Each of the two pant legs includes a knee sleeve affixed to the inner liner at a knee height inside the corresponding pant leg and a knee pad held on the knee sleeve and extending across a front knee portion of the corresponding pants leg.

There is provided a firefighter protective coat including an outer shell and a plurality of hook-and-dee pairs. The outer shell has left and right front panels and a closable front opening. The left and right front panels have a border area extending along the front opening and includes a closure flap foldable over the border area. Each hook-and-dee pair includes a hook and a dee. The hook includes a hooking piece extending across a width of the border area and an asymmetric base fastened to coat panel. The asymmetric base includes upper and lower wings projecting strictly on top and bottom sides of the hooking piece. The dee is affixed to another coat panel and is in alignment with the corresponding hook. The dee includes a ring engageable with the hooking piece and a longitudinal base fastened to the corresponding coat panel and extending parallelly to the front opening.

A firefighter protective garment includes an external material and at least one abrasion resistant hem assembly. The external material has an inner surface and the at least one abrasion resistant hem assembly includes a strip of reinforcing material affixed along an edge of the firefighter protective garment to the inner surface of the external material by a fastener. The fastener is embedded within the external material.

A firefighter's protective garment including an outer shell, moisture barrier and thermal barrier in which the thermal barrier is constructed with spacers on its inner surface such that air can circulate between the garment and the firefighter wearing it. The garment redistributes metabolic heat over a larger surface area, and increases metabolic cooling and firefighter comfort. In the preferred embodiment of the invention, the spacers are strategically attached to those areas of the thermal barrier which find themselves opposite those parts of the human body having the highest rates of perspiration and metabolic heat transfer.

A firefighter jacket that comprises a torso-covering portion and a pair of sleeves, wherein at least one pocket is positioned on the torso-covering portion. The pockets comprise an interior chamber and an opening to the interior chamber. The interior chamber has a width and a depth that varies along the width. The opening to the interior chamber is of a width that is less than the width of the interior chamber.

A dock catway is comprised of a catway frame adapted at a near end to be secured to a dock. The dock catway has a nose piece structure at a far end of the catway frame. At least one dock bumper is secured to a side wall of the catway structure. A platform is provided on a top end of the catway frame. The nose piece is molded with two layers of polyethylene. An inner one of the layers is of a lighter contrasting color than an outer one of the layers, wherein the outer one of the two layers is at least partly machined to form delineations having increased translucency to conduct light from one or more internal light sources secured inside the nose piece.

A floating dock structure is comprised of a pair of single-piece side rails secured together in spaced-apart substantially parallel relationship by a plurality of single-piece cross-members connected between the side rails to a lower tubular portion thereof. The side rails are hollow, tubular aluminum extruded side rails defining a top wall, an exterior side wall, a bottom wall and an interior side wall spaced inwardly from the exterior side wall. Elongated deck support stringers are secured in spaced-apart relationship on a top wall of the cross-members. Decking floor members are supported by the deck support stringers elevated from the top face of the cross-members a distance of up to about five inches (5 inches) to create underfloor passages adapted for the passage of conduits and services material. Floatation support casings are secured under the cross-members.

The outer shell fabric according to the invention is made of a textile material which is a double-weave woven fabric or a warp-knit knitted fabric constructed in such a manner that preferably a majority of one yarn type is placed on the face of the fabric and the majority of a different yarn type is placed on the back surface. One of the yarns may consist of multi-filamentary meta-aramid fiber (e.g. Nomex), the other of either a multi-filamentary or a spun (staple) para-aramid fiber (e.g. Kevlar). The textile material can be visualized as two separate fabrics being interlaced together by the sharing of yarns between them. When used as part of a firefighter or work garment for protection against heat and flame, the outer shell fabric has superior tear resistance, abrasion resistance, UV resistance, and thermal protective performance when compared to other outer shell fabrics used for the same application. In addition, the textile material is more elastic than traditional woven fabrics of the same yarns, and when used in conjunction with a firefighter garment, increases comfort and mobility.

The shroud is made of a radiant-heat reflecting and thermo-insulating fabric material and is shaped to cover the shoulders, upper chest and back of a firefighter, and to be worn with a firefighting proximity garment. The shroud has a lower edge reaching the upper chest and back of the firefighter, and a continuous upper edge extending to the helmet outer cover. A face opening is provided in the shroud opposite the face piece when the shroud is worn over the firefighting protective garment. The face opening can be adjusted to the dimension of the face piece and is arranged to prevent the formation of gaps in protection between the face piece and the periphery of the face opening. The shroud can be fixed to the helmet outer cover at the continuous upper edge so as to prevent heat from penetrating into the firefighting protective garment between the helmet and the helmet outer cover.

The firefighter's turnout pants according to the invention are designed so that each pant leg comprises a front panel and a back panel above the knee region, the panels being joined by an outseam and an inseam, and cylindrical panels below the knee region, the cylindrical panels being each joined by only an outseam and connected via a circumferential seam at the knee to the two-panels above the knee. The absence of an inseam below the knee of the firefighter's pants eliminates a chronic problem of abrasion of the threads used in that portion of the inseam and subsequent failure of the inseam. The absence below the knee of an inseam with the potential for failure reduces the maintenance and repair of the firefighter pants, reduces the risk of burn injury resulting from a breach in the protective envelope of the firefighter's pants, and reduces the incidence of reflective trim becoming coincidentally detached from the pants.

The laminate is formed of a sheet of a woven textile material derived from multifilamentary aramid, polyimide, polyamide, polybenzimidazole or cellulose fire retardant yarns and a sheet of non-woven textile material. The adhesive used to produce the laminate should prevent slippage of the two materials relative to one another and fraying of the woven textile material while enabling the laminate to be air permeable, and having a minimum ten (10) cubic feet per minute (CFM) when tested in accordance with test method ASTM D737. This product is cheaper to manufacture and is more comfortable than the known quilted and coated material.

The outer shell consists of a plain weave multifilament fabric derived from aramid, polyimide, polyamide or polybenzimidazole yarns. The inner sheet is a woven, non-woven or knitted material. The two sheets are laminated with an adhesive which enables the two sheets to be laminated in such a manner that the two sheets are non slipping with respect to one another while enabling the laminate to be air permeable with a minimum of ten (10) cubic feet per minute (CFM), when tested in accordance with ASTM D737.
