Method of aligning an imaging device with respect to an object, the imaging device comprising two or more optical channels, is disclosed. The method may include aiming the two or more optical channels at corresponding overlapping zones of the object such that the two or more optical channels are oriented at different angles relative to each other and off-axis relative to a central axis of the imaging device. The method may additionally include guiding or focusing the imaging device relative to the object using composite images created by combining separate images from the two or more optical channels.

An imaging system may include a panoramic gonioscopic imaging apparatus that includes a disposable component configured to rest against a cornea of a patient, and an objective optical device configured to direct a continuous panoramic image of an entire circumference of an iridocorneal angle of the patient on an intermediate imaging plane, and a relay lens configured to direct the continuous panoramic image from the intermediate imaging plane to a sensor such that the sensor captures the entire circumference of the iridocorneal angle at once. The imaging system may also include a computing device in communication with the panoramic gonioscopic imaging apparatus, where the computing device configured to display an image of the entire circumference of the iridocorneal angle.

An optical imaging device includes a support structure and imaging channels, where each imaging channel includes a discrete optical imaging pathway. Additionally, the optical imaging device may include a primary fixation target configured to emit optical signals along a primary fixation target projection path towards the pupil of the eye. An imaging device may include first and second optical channels, where each of the first and second optical channels include a discrete optical imaging pathway. The first and second optical channels may be aimed at different angles relative to each other, and each may be directed towards corresponding partially overlapping zones of an object for imaging. Each of the optical channels may include an illuminating source configured to be turned on or off, where illumination from the illuminating sources follow respective illumination paths to the object. Each of the optical channels may additionally include lenses shared by both the respective optical imaging pathways and the respective illumination paths, and each may include an image sensor. The imaging device may also include a computing device configured to turn on the illuminating source of the first optical channel while capturing an image using the image sensor of the second optical channel.

An optical imaging device includes a plurality of imaging channels. Each imaging channel of the plurality of imaging channels may include a discrete optical imaging pathway, and the plurality of imaging channels may be disposed within a support structure. The plurality of imaging channels may be aimed at different angles relative to each other. Several aspects of the volume gauge may be implemented with a pressure sensing system and/or a motion sensing system. The pressure sensing system for volume measurements may include a chamber, a pressure changing device, a pressure sensing device, and a processor. The motion sensing system for volume measurements may include a container, a flexible seal, a heating device, a sensing device, and a processor.

The camera or periscope system may include a taking lens, a beam steering device, a relay device, and an image rotation device. The camera or periscope system can be used to image in situations where the camera is not easily redirected to view a desired object of interest. The camera or periscope system is designed to be fixed to a mounting platform where the taking lens can be configured to point to the desired object of interest.

A color management system for use with projection displays includes, for example, two or more analyzers positioned to receive light beams as they are emitted from the panels of a color management system. The analyzers are positioned to receive the light beams directly from the image assimilators before the light has passed through another optical element such as a light combiner. The analyzers are configured for producing filtered light outputs with improved contrast relative to the incoming light beams. By positioning the analyzers to receive the light beams directly from the image assimilators, i.e., prior to passage through other optical elements, the analyzers are able to remove substantially all of the noise before it has become indistinguishable, on the basis of polarization, from the light that comprises the desirable image. Accordingly, this embodiment produces images having dramatically improved levels of contrast relative to prior art systems.

Image display device

The present invention relates to a folded front end unit used in a light engine of a projection display device. The front end unit comprises a light source for generating a beam of light, and a lightpipe for providing spatial uniformity to the beam of light. Polarization-dependent front end units include polarization beam splitters for separating the light into orthogonally polarized sub-beams, and a polarization rotating element, e.g. a waveplate, for rotating the polarization of one of the sub-beams. In accordance with the present invention, a prism is positioned between the light source and the lightpipe for reflecting the light into the lightpipe. The difference in refractive index between the air and the prism decreases the cone angle of the beam of light enough to effectively increase the distance between the light source and the lightpipe to compensate for the added distance required to fold the light.

Folding converging light into a lightpipe

This invention discloses a reflective illumination system for supplying an optical radiation beam along a folded path for illuminating a planar object. The system includes a radiation source, and two facing parabolic dish-shaped arrays of parabolic or dished reflectors. Divergent light received from the light source incident on a first of the arrays is reflected as a larger collimated beam comprising plural separated sub-beams. Each of the reflectors or facets from the first array directs one of the sub-beams to a facet on the second array. The second array reflects the light it receives with a substantially uniform intensity onto a rectangular target location.

Reflective illumination system

A color management system for use with projection displays includes an image assimilator and an analyzer. The image assimilator comprises a panel that produces a light beam comprising spatial information. The image assimilator also comprises a field lens positioned to receive the light beam and configured to emit a converging light beam whose cross-sectional area decreases with distance from the field lens. In an exemplary embodiment, a plurality of image assimilators and associated analyzers are included, each having a field lens for emitting a converging light beam. The analyzers are configured for producing filtered light outputs with improved contrast relative to the converging light beams. In addition, the converging nature of the field lens emitted light beams enables the size of the analyzers and other downstream components to be minimized. Accordingly, this embodiment produces images having dramatically improved levels of contrast with reduced size relative to prior art systems.

A color management system for use with projection displays includes, for example, two or more analyzers positioned to receive light beams emitted from corresponding image assimilators, which each comprise a transmissive panel and a polarizing beamsplitter. Each analyzer is positioned to receive a light beam directly from an associated image assimilator before the light has passed through another optical element such as a light combiner. The analyzers are configured for producing filtered light outputs with improved contrast relative to the incoming light beams. These closely-coupled analyzers are able to remove substantially all of the noise before it has become indistinguishable, on the basis of polarization, from the light that comprises the desirable image. In an exemplary embodiment, an optical isolator is positioned to receive both a light output from a color management system and a reflection of the light output. The optical isolator is configured for isolating the light output from the reflection.

A reflector, light source, phase retarder, and linear polarizer configured to increase a single-polarization output beam by converting wrong-polarization light into correct-polarization light. The linear polarizer reflects the wrong-polarization light and transmits the correct-polarization light. The phase retarder converts the wrong-polarization light into correct-polarization light, which is then transmitted by the linear polarizer.

Polarization conversion system

A color management system for use with projection displays includes, for example, a separating polarizing beamsplitter, a compensating prism group, an image assimilator, and a combining polarizing beam splitter. In accordance with an exemplary embodiment, the separating polarizing beamsplitter receives a bi-oriented light input and separates it into two output beams, one comprising a first component and the other comprising a second component. The image assimilator receives an output light beam from the separating polarizing beamsplitter, transmits the light output to one or more corresponding microdisplays, receives one or more modified outputs from the microdisplays, and emits an output comprising those modified outputs to a combining polarizing beamsplitter. The compensating prism group receives from the separating polarizing beamsplitter the other output light beam, transmits it to another corresponding microdisplay, receives from the microdisplay a modified light output, and transmits it to the combining polarizing beamsplitter be combined with the light output from the image assimilator. The compensating prism group may be configured to compensate for an optical aberration induced by the light separator.
