Chromatography systems and methods for using carbon dioxide to separate one or more cannabis-derived compounds from other components of a mixture are generally described. Some of the methods described herein comprise transporting a mixture comprising a first cannabis-derived compound and one or more other components through a chromatography column containing a stationary phase comprising a packing material. In some embodiments, the mixture is transported through the column within a mobile phase that comprises carbon dioxide (e.g., supercritical CO, liquid CO). The mobile phase may be substantially free of a co-solvent that is in liquid phase at standard room temperature and pressure. In some embodiments, the mobile phase is free of any co-solvent and comprises 100 vol % carbon dioxide. The first cannabis-derived compound may interact with the stationary phase and/or the mobile phase to a different degree than the one or more other components of the mixture, causing at least partial separation of the first cannabis-derived compound from the one or more other components within the column. Due to this separation, at least one fraction of the mobile phase that comprises the first cannabis-derived compound and is substantially free of the one or more other components of the mixture may be collected.

Systems and methods for separating cannabis-derived compounds using chromatography with liquid or supercritical carbon dioxide

The invention provides methods and compositions relating to differentiated cell populations that derive from pluripotent stem cells. The methods relate to reducing the number of residual stem cells present in such populations. The compositions include differentiated cell populations that contain reduced number of stem cells or that contain no stem cells. Pluripotent stem cells may be reduced in number and/or function through exposure to low oxygen levels.

Methods and compositions for increased safety of stem cell-derived populations

Articles and methods for stem cell differentiation are generally described. In some embodiments, an article for stem cell differentiation may comprise an oxygen permeable substrate having at least a portion of a surface coated with a matrix. The matrix may allow the surface chemistry of the substrate to be altered, such that the cell-substrate surface interactions may be finely controlled without substantially affecting the oxygen permeability of the substrate. The surface chemistry may be altered to promote directed stem cell differentiation by, e.g., modification of the matrix surface with a specific density of biological molecules. In some embodiments, methods for stem cell differentiation may comprise directing the differentiation of stem cells on the articles, described herein, under suitable environmental conditions. Articles and methods, described herein, may be free of xenogeneic components and particularly well-suited for applications involving the differentiation of human stem cells into specific lineages.

Aneurysms are treated by filling at least one double-walled filling structure with a filling medium within the aneurysm, such as filling structures having a membrane that allows water molecules to permeate across the membrane in response to a water potential differential across the membrane. The transport of fluid across the membrane allows the bag to expand or shrink to accommodate changes in the size or shape of the aneurysm, thereby maintaining a seal between the filling structure against the vessel wall and maintaining apposition of the filling structure against the inside surface of the aneurysm. Oxygen is supplied to cells in vitro or in vivo by generating oxygen with an oxygen generator that electrolyzes water to oxygen and hydrogen. Oxygen can be generated substantially without generating free hydrogen using a multilayer electrolyzer sheet having a proton exchange membrane sandwiched by an anode layer and a cathode layer. The oxygen generator may be used to supply oxygen to cells contained by a culture plate, a culture flask, a microtiter plate or an extracorporeal circuit, or to cells in an encapsulating chamber for implanting in the body such as an immunoisolation chamber bounded by a semipermeable barrier layer that allows selected components to enter and leave the chamber. A bioactive molecule may be present with the cells. Oxygen can be delivered in situ to cells within the body such as by implanting the oxygen generator in proximity to cell-containing microcapsules in an intraperitoneal space, or by implanting a system containing the oxygen generator in proximity to an immunoisolation chamber containing cells.

Method of delivering oxygen to cells by electrolyzing water

This invention relates to methods and apparatus for carrying out affinity separations of proteins under conditions optimized for recovering biologically active protein. The method utilizes a membrane-bound ligand first to capture and separate a ligate from a fluid mixture and subsequently to release said ligate in purified form. The present methods enhance the yield of active ligate recovered in the process. The invention has particular relevance to the recovery and purification of proteins from mixtures.

Improved reactive absorbent solutions for absorbing gaseous components are provided by incorporating weakly dissociating compounds in liquid absorbents. When the gaseous component to be dissolved is acid-forming, the absorbent solution should be alkaline, the weakly dissociated compound should be a weak acid or salt thereof, and the pH of the solution should approximate the pK.sub.A of the acid. When the gaseous component is base-forming, the liquid absorbent should be acidic, the weakly dissociating compound should be a weak base, and the pOH of the solution should approximately match the pK.sub.B of the weak base. The weakly dissociated compounds are 1 to 20 times more effective in increasing absorption rates, than additions of equivalent amounts of the primary acidic or basic reactants. Where the absorbed gas is desorbable, the addition of the weakly dissociating compounds has similar effects in increasing the rate of desorption.
