An aperture covering including track-guided interconnectable panels that are compactly stored in a storage area containing weight counterbalancing mechanisms, such as a compressed spring, is described. When the panels are stacked in the storage area and removed one at a time, the first panel is removed from the storage area and enters the track. As the first panel moves through the track, it interlocks with the second panel and forces the second panel out of the storage area and into the track. Interlocking and removal of the panels continues until all of the panels are removed or the first panel reaches the end of the track. Weight counterbalancing can be assisted by track-contained toothed belts, cable and ball drive mechanisms, or other counterbalancing methods. The resulting aperture covering requires minimal storage space for the open aperture position, minimizes exposure to potentially hazardous counterbalancing mechanisms, and allows for heavy-weight panel construction.

Hingeless, parallel storing, sectional aperture covering

A panel lock comprises an elongated housing having a generally rectangular shape with a longitudinal and transverse direction. The housing includes a cavity adapted to receive a bolt which is slidably retained for transverse movement within the housing and which projects through a passage or opening in one side of the housing. A push plate is pivotally mounted to opposite sides of the cavity in the housing fand includes a cam surface cooperative with a follower associated with the bolt. Pivotal action of the push plate drives the bolt into and out of engagement with a strike that is external from the housing. A key operated latch is retained within the push plate and cooperatively engages with the housing to latch or release the plate and thereby permit pivotal action of the push plate.

Flush mounted panel lock construction

A cylinder lock with a removable plug incorporates a series of spring biased combinating disc tumblers which cooperate with a first key in normal lock operation. An additional, unbiased control tumbler at the end of the plug cooperates with a retention flange associated with the cylinder to retain the plug against removal from the cylinder while permitting rotation of the plug in the cylinder. The control tumbler includes a notch for receipt of the first key as well as a second, plug removal key. The first key acts against one edge of the notch to displace the control tumbler into a position which ensures that the tumbler will remain engaged with the plug retention flange regardless of the orientation of the plug. The second key includes special bitting adapted to engage a separate second edge of the notch associated with the control tumbler to translate the control tumbler such that when the plug is rotated appropriately, the control tumbler is oriented to slide through an axial or longitudinal groove in the cylinder thus permitting removal of the plug from the cylinder. The lock can also be assembled from a reduced diameter cylindrical plug which cooperates with a two part cylinder that includes a passage to receive the plug and special shaped passages for cooperation with the combinating and locking tumblers.

An improved locking system for a series of vertical arrayed drawers includes a plurality of dogs mounted on a pivot rod attached to a panel adjacent the series of drawers. The dogs pivot in response to an actuator plate which is driven by cam drive associated with movement of the drawers. The mechanism is useful for operation of a series of drawers in vertical array to maintain all of the drawers closed or to maintain selected drawers in a closed condition.

Locking system

An improved central locking system for a desk includes a plurality of stop members mounted on a pivot rod attached to a panel adjacent a series of drawers. One stop member is pivoted in response to a pin drive actuator which moves when driven by a cam associated with a control drawer horizontally adjacent the other drawers.

An improved garage door lock mechanism includes a housing, a crank, a slider, a catch and a single, multipurpose biasing member. The elements are adapted such that the biasing member both biases the slider from a locking position and biases the catch to catch the slider when the slider is in the locking position.

A lock for a motorcycle saddle bag container includes a key operated plug attached to a lock housing mounted on the inside wall of the container. The plug operates a pivotal and transversely movable shutter. The shutter, in turn, cooperates with a strike attached to the inside of the lid for the container. A rubber seal maintains the shutter and strike in a locked position until the lid is manually depressed to compress the seal and release the shutter from the strike.

Motorcycle saddle bag lock

A cedar chest lock remains unlocked unless positive actuation of a strike engaging member is effected. The lock includes a strike member projecting from the chest lid for cooperation with a locking latch plate retained in a housing mounted in the side wall of the chest. The housing thus has an opening for receipt of the strike member. A latch plate is pivotally mounted in the housing and is spring biased to a position which avoids engagement with the strike member upon insertion of the strike member through the housing opening. A push button in the housing may be actuated to engage and position the latch plate for cooperation with the strike member. Actuating the push button and subsequent positioning of the strike member through the opening in the latch housing permits the latch plate to engage the strike member thereby locking the chest lid in a closed position. The push button may include a key operated lock.

Chest safety lock

A dispensing device is provided with a tube that engages a nozzle orifice of the device. During storage, a cap covers the orifice and defines an opening that is adjacent to the body of said device, such that the tube is able to extend beyond the periphery of the cap. The disposition of the cap relative to the tube and dispenser body causes the tube to lie in proximity to an external wall of the body. When the cap is removed or, in an alternative embodiment, rotated, the tube can assume a radially outward configuration.
