A system for (a) determining a first direction from a first device toward a second device based on a first set of WiFi&#xae; wireless signals received by at least one antenna of the first device from the second device, (b) determining a second direction from a third device toward the second device based on a second set of WiFi&#xae; wireless signals received by at least one antenna of the third device from the second device, and (c) based at least on a first location of the first device, the first direction from the first device toward the second device, a second location of the third device, and the second direction from the third device toward the second device: determining a third location of the second device.

Method and system for determining a location of wireless device

The present disclosure discloses a network device and/or method for adaptive antenna pattern management for wireless local area networks. A network device comprising an adaptive antenna receives a coverage area description and a wireless coverage objective for a wireless network. The network device also scans a plurality of channels in a plurality of directions to detect signal levels from one or more other network devices in the wireless network. The network device can then coordinate wireless signal coverage with the one or more other network devices based at least on the coverage area description, the wireless coverage objective, and the detected signal levels. Specifically, the network device may accomplish such coordination by switching or reshaping the adaptive antenna patterns based on adaptive antenna patterns of other network devices in the wireless network.

Adaptive antenna pattern management for wireless local area networks

A system configured to perform operations including: determining a first received signal strength, at a first locator device located at a first location, for a signal transmitted by a target device; determining a second received signal strength, at a second locator device located at a second location, for the signal transmitted by the target device; determining a third received signal strength, at a third locator device located at a third location, for the signal transmitted by the target device; determining an average received signal strength of the first, second, and third received signal strengths; and determining a first distance from the first locator device to the target device based at least on (a) the average received signal strength, (b) the first received signal strength, and (c) the distance from the first locator device to a circumcenter of the first location, the second location, and the third location.

Location determination in wireless networks

Radio Frequency (RF) coverage models are visualized by displaying three dimensional unity scaled models of antenna performance in a Geographic Information System (GIS), Traditional logarithmic scaled antenna models are converted to linear models and stored as three dimensional representations which are placed and scaled using a GIS to visualize RF coverage.

Sensing installed orientation of an antenna or access node in a wireless digital network. According to one aspect of the invention, an orientation sensor such as a 2 or 3 axis accelerometer is provided in the access node. The orientation sensor may be attached to the access node housing, directly or through a substrate, attached to the main logic board of the access node, or may be mounted to an antenna. The orientation sensor may be mounted to the same substrate as is used to form an antenna, or may be mounted on a separate substrate. When associated with an antenna, such as the orientation sensor on the same substrate as the antenna, or co-located with the antenna such as inside the same package, the orientation of the antenna may be sensed. Orientation data on the access node and/or antenna may be transmitted to the controller for the access node, and/or to clients of the access node. This orientation information may be used for example to verify or validate installation and positioning, for example comparing the actual orientation to the desired orientation as stored in a database. The orientation information may be used in modeling and/or displaying access node coverage. In access nodes with selectable antennas, the orientation information may be used to switch antennas.

Sensing device orientation in wireless networks

A method places bypass capacitors for controlling the signal integrity of a signal routed between devices on a multi-layer printed circuit board by analysis of the routing of the signal and the signal characteristics. In general, when an interconnecting signal between devices is routed adjacent to an impedance control plane that does not serve as the circuit supply voltage plane or the reference voltage plane for all devices interconnected by the signal trace, the method selects locations for addition of bypass capacitors based upon the routing of the interconnecting signal trace to improve signal integrity.
